I'm loving this show.
I'm loving watching the nuts on the left and the right both trying to delude themselves into thinking that this is some grand design on NK / USA's part.
The Trump and Kim Jong Un show, a right barrel of laughs |

Trump was in an unenviable situation, he couldn't cancel without looking weak and he couldn't not cancel without looking weak. Kim Jong is winning this |

NK-meets-Trump is obviously a recipe for Basil Fawlty-like ranting; who knows which bits are serious, and which bits are playing to the crowd. But a deal that might bring Trump glory should never be considered off the table.
On a different topic, Moon, whose commitment to rapprochement I admire, made a major blunder when he went overboard with the Trump flattery. Unbeknownst to Moon, this made it very clear to Western observers that he thinks Trump is a puerile tool.
Of course, Trump is that and more, but it was a huge blunder to signal as much. I've seen this mistake many times, with the stereotype of Westerners (and Americans in particular) as being egotistical and brash being taken too literally. False praise is then expressed without the due caution warranted by working interculturally and in a non-native language, and the ruse is exposed.
(The cultural analogue running the other way is 'the humble Asian' stereotype. Have fun with cultural cliche by all means, but don't take it too seriously!). _________________ In the end the rain comes down, washes clean the streets of a blue sky town.

On Trump he certainly had a point about the Roseanne thing,
And man driving around there is still plenty of support here for him, trump flags on fences! Picked up a funny shirt for hubby in Montana! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

^ There's still plenty of support for Carlton, too, despite all of the evidence about their merit.
That's the thing about barracking - it isn't rational. |

...and in this timeline, basketballer Dennis Rodman spearheads nuclear disarmament talks between North Korea and the United States at the behest of Miss Universe pageant owner and President, Donald Trump.

^ A timely reminder. This dumpling is one of the great monsters of history. Whilst you have to deal with monsters and diplomacy is always better than war, his being seen in relatively normal company does not make him a legitimate head of state. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

We actually know next to nothing about him specifically. Only that he inherited the leadership from an actual monster at a very young age and has had to consolidate power. It would be pretty much impossible to tear down the apparatus of what is in effect an absolute monarchy overnight. He's probably the first Gen Y world leader, it'll be interesting to see how he deals with bringing NK into the modern world. I'm guessing he will have a lot of enemies back home.
We saw nothing like this kind of engagement from Sung or Jong. |

The dumpling has shown no serious retreat from the monstrous policies of his poisonous forebears. His reasons for engagement can only really be speculated upon, but they are presumably motivated by a mix of confidence in his now-nuclearised security, Trump’s alarming unpredictability, and perhaps pressure from his Chinese trading partners who are responding to Trump’s bellicosity. We’ll see what follows, but I suspect we’ll find that his engagement is the cocktail of false promises, extortion and flat lies which has long been the signature of this wretched little China-backed gulag empire.
I think it’s a bit pat to apply the term “millennial” to the scion of a brutal, homicidal North Asian dynasty, to be honest. He shares almost none of the common experiences that are presumed to underlie the Western sociological category of a “millennial”. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |
