Apart from his uncouth behaviour, what has he £$%$ed up so far? I mean really £$%$ed up. Genuine question, I have no idea what good or bad he has done, but a black hole didn’t appear! Is it ok to use the black word?

Trump was all those prior to becoming President. Laughing

Shows how dumb middle America really is when they think someone born into wealth and privilege has any idea about their daily lives or is even interested.

And Obama was all those during his reign. The selective arguments from the left are so tiresome... does anyone actually buy them anymore?

Funny, FDR and JFK were both born so. Did that apply to them as well ? It is the content of someone’s character that matters, not their background. The problem with Trump is that he’s stupid, boorish and narcissistic. It was probably dumb of middle America to vote for him, but dumber of the political class to present a choice between him and Hillary.

^ I can see almost no evidence that Obama was any of those during his reign. One may disagree with his policy choices, but I don’t think morality or decency was an issue with him at all. Where did you see evidence of Obama being “lying uncaring cheating, unethical” ?

Thing is though, trump has never hidden it, his ego won’t let him. So in that way, he’s honest. And trump has been bankrupt and climbed back up. My husband loves him, but I think it’s more for the reaction! I bought him a trump shirt in Washington and he’s nearly worn it to death! It always gets a reaction!

I actually asked the Trump question of several people across several states on our trip last year, and got the impression that it wasn’t so much choosing Trump as not choosing anyone else. Fed up with establishment, who can blame them?

I sincerely hope for the American people, it’s at the very least, a wake up call.

Yeah I reckon Obama was about the closest any politician anywhere has got to being a decent human being!

Well, he hasn’t started a nuclear war yet. I’ll give him that!

Yes, agreed, a very good man. I don’t agree with his position on some issues, but his personal ethics and basic decency have seemingly been impeccable, and his record in government, despite house obstructionism, was very solid, with some major legslative achievements and few disasters.

If we do not give credit for that when earned n politics, we will soon fail to understand it in anyone.

^ What bothers me most is that American society is so politically polarised, particularly in a partisan way. It genuinely seems impossible for Republicans to see Obama as anything other than a socialist degenerate, much as Democrats treat Trump as a Disney villain. And then one goes back to Bush and Clinton receiving exactly the same treatment, and realises that the US has been stuck in this loop for some time. Nuance and fair-minded analysis are valuable things, and for that I thank my far-left Facebook friends for not buying into the anti-Trump hysteria.

I agree, and anyway Trump is clearly not smart enough to be a Disney villain. I love America’s ideals and its historic contribution to human progress (real progress, not progressivism) but I am far from certain that its form of politics is sustainable unless the grown-ups can get back in control. And I am coming to doubt that modern technology and America’s radical democracy make that possible.

^very true TP. I don't write to change anyone's mind. I write to form and structure my own mind, and occasionally I learn stuff here about how other people think about things I care about. So its still worth it, sometimes.

Anyone who think they can change minds on socmed, however, needs a reality transfusion, as this site shows like all others.

It'll never be enough though.
