Hi Mr Stui Magpie.
Grundy had a solid tussle with other talks in marking contests. He certainly seems to have returned in tremendous physical shape. I was reminded of how 'wasted' he was physically towards the end of training drills in his first few seasons. No sign of that today. Both he and Cox tapped beautifully to the fleet of midfielders at their feet. The thing that impressed about Grundy today was his commitment to follow up once the ball hit the ground. Not quite Mumford like with physical impact, but certainly made his presence felt.

Darby Moore was also given ruck practice ( jumping into the bag) - its fair to see his vertical leap is impressive. Hopefully not too much time in the ruck for the lad this year.

Agreed on Darcy, keep him out of the ruck. Good to hear about Cox and Grundy, Cox displayed very good ruck sense last year, his early fault was timing his jump at centre bounces but when he gets his hand to the ball he directs it well

Moore played in the Ruck a tad in his Debut season and looked okay.

Though only play him there as a LAST thing you can do

Excellent report WL ... thank you. I've now linked this and also the HS training report from 6 January (now free from paywall) in my preview thread.

In answer to other question from before, although Brayden Sier is a fair way off from 100% match fitness, he is a drilling kick and very precise. There is a hell of a lot to like about the boy's potential.

A spectator near me was yelling out for Sier to keep up with Benny. I mean, what are people expecting Sier to do? He's following a strict program devised by Davoren. He's so far back from the rest of the players, he'll start this season playing in the VFL. He's a bit like Wills last season. He has the back end of the season to prove himself. Otherwise, he will find himself without a contract for 2018. We should all be feeling a bit sorry for him rather than criticising him.

I agree. This boy has the look of a quality young player about him. I look forward to him getting fully fit and having a tilt at the big time.

Interesting to note the improvement in the goalkicking technique of Mason Cox; his action is much more fluid and he has more penetration as a result.

WL I was taken by this comment you made on Mason Cox, Not many people give this bloke credit for only being in the game for such a short time and being able to kick the footy let alone kick it straight as he does. Suppose Americans have Gridiron and that has an oval ball and he also played soccer but still one of the must difficult skills of our game is to kick that pill. Thanks for the observation.

Thank you Mr Mossi. His action is far less mechanical than last year. His run up is a tad longer and he swings his leg back further and through when he kicks. He slotted several goals from the fifty yesterday- comfortably. I think he will be a gem in 2017.

Also, noticeable in his ruckwork was a significant increase in his use of his hips in the boundary simulations. He was able to work others under the ball and direct his tap outs with increased efficacy. His work with Treloar was a sight to behold.- think Dean Cox and Jude.

Rubbish. Kid was a bottom ager and a project player when drafted, had 2016 ruined by injury, and has been on a modified program this preseason due to the back injury that finished his 2016. Something would need to go very wrong for him not to get at least a 1 year extension into 2018.
