^^Ha ha. My shopping is planned. First work out where to park usually far so I have to walk and less chance of the car being damaged in the car park. Mind you I will park by myself and there is like 40 clear bays either side and I come back and some fckr has parked next to me as they must think their car will get lonely Rolling Eyes Then my route is planned with my shopping list starting at the furthest shop and making my way through my list and then out. I know what I want and prices and bang I am gone. No there will be some woman where the price is $27.25 and she will shuffle through her purse looking for the 25 cents and after a few minutes realise she only has 20 cents. If I am held up it's alway a woman. Razz

Ha. I'm with you! Our local centre has a very small car park, I park across the street in a court! Occasionally I'll park where the employees do (I know some and recognise their cars so know they will still be there!) at big centres I'll park in the furthest corner, like you do, and yes sure enough there is cars next to me when I return! You would probably notice they are cars in good nick too, they figure you won't hit their doors either!

My car is tiny and only has four seats, and no leg room in the back, so it's a good excuse when we go out not to take it! We generally take one of the kids cars if we are going out as a family. I've done 3,700klm in the last year! I've had it 4 years now and only done 30,000klm in it!

Hubby got himself a flash ranger 18 months ago, I took it to my sisters farm, got a big double stone chip in the windscreen, and when he said what happened I said 'thank god I wasn't in my car, it would have scratched the roof!" But man is he dining out on that chip!

I actually don't mind wandering the shops.

it's a biatch if you actually have a list of stuff you need, but just browsing and doing the odd impulse buy is relaxing.

I do tend to avoid the shopping centre in December though as the Xmas shopping frenzy shits me. I do most of my Xmas shopping at Dan Murphys.

So there is a lot of 'To Stui, love santa' pressies under the tree then?!

The "general interest" shops included things like phone shops, banks, cafes, book shops and a newsagent.

The "female only" shops included lots of women's clothing shops, hairdressers, shoe shops, homewares shops (you might doubt that last classification but I looked into each one and on this busy shopping day and every single customer was female) and kiddy shops (exactly two males inside the various kiddy shops, one was standing there holding parcels and looking very bored while his female partner bought something, the other was a shopkeeper).

Don't men get their hair cut? And wouldn't shoe shops sell shoes for both sexes?

I'm sure evolutionary psychologists will have their theories about the question in the OP, but I think it's fairly easily answered by gender roles and norms. In traditional family dynamics (where husbands would spend 9-5 Monday to Friday at work and wives stayed home to look after the kids), women had to do most of the shopping whether they liked it or not; so it makes sense that, when shopping malls and department stores started to spring up, they tried to appeal primarily to women – not just in choice of what ratio of "women's" to "men's" stores there are, but perhaps also in aesthetics and advertising slogans, too. So yeah, if you walk into Myer or David Jones or even the entirety of Chadstone, you get a pretty strong oestrogen vibe. And as much as we may live in a more modern society now, obviously far more women than men are still being tasked with doing the shopping. Take a look at the gender ratio next time you're in Coles, for instance.

Whether, beyond all that, women just enjoy shopping more than men is debatable. I love shopping if it's something I'm interested in (like DVDs), and feel bored shitless if I'm in a shop that I'm not. I dare say that would be the same for most people.

Shoe shops which sell shoes for both sexes i counted in the "general interest" category, shops selling only ladies' shoes in the "female only category". Ditto for hairdressers.

There were, from memory, four shoe shops in the mall. Two of them sold men's shoes as well as ladies shoes. They seemed to have heaps more space devoted to ladies shoes than the gents, nevertheless I counted them as "general".

What is it with women and shoes? As a rule, women's shoes are very expensive, less durable, less comfortable, and much less practical. If women were rational they would buy fewer shoes than men, and make do with sensible, comfortable, long-lasting unisex shoes, such as runners and gumboots.

But women ain't rational.

(Are we surprised? Only 50-something years on this earth and I've worked that one out already! Stay tuned, I'm working on a new invention, a sort of round, rolling thing with an axle in the middle. I reckon it could be greast for transport applications.Watch this space.)

I've got 3 trees to chose from.

Big bastard in a box under the pool table

Medium bastard in a box somewhere, just pull out and stand up.

Little bastard, 30cm high, stands on the bar

I'll probably get one of them up on Christmas Eve.

You can be on the list if you can come over to collect your present and promise to be bad. Wink
