Plenty of potential, massive boost for the VFL squad. Great kick, reads the play well and has a great leap. Can he cut it at AFL? We shall see.

Interesting pick really. Think he was taken on the basis he is a outstanding kick (something we don't have enough of) and he is a tireless worker
Happy to give him a chance adds depth

Liam looks the goods in a few passages of play here...

Like his attack and kicking to advantage of team mates.... Shocked

The best thing about him is he seems to be a very good kick. That's got to be a good thing. Cool

Maybe. Not sure how you feel about Lonie, Young, Russell or Yagmoor.

Welcome to the club, Liam.

Quote:
Rookie Draft: Selection No. 39 – Liam Mackie

Position: Medium defender
Height: 185cm
Weight: 76kg
Born: 24/8/1998
Recruited from: Glenelg

Profile

"Liam is the cousin of Geelong's Andrew Mackie, who is a Sacred Heart boy as well. We didn't see a lot of Liam because of school footy but he won the medal in the state school footy final. Good decision maker and uses the ball well off half back but will need to fill out in the coming years. Can create a path out of defence and has upside," - Glenelg coach Matthew Lokan, Inside Football, November 2016.

Little piece on Mackie on the CFC website.

http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2016-12-12/tools-down-as-mackie-becomes-a-pie

I like this bit.

Quote:
Goodrich remembers Mackie rocking up to training wearing hard cap boots with dirt on his face as he finished some practical studies in his trade and says he will apply a no-nonsense approach to his football too.

"He's a low maintenance kid. He just gets the job done, no complaints, no histrionics," Goodrich said.
