McCarthy (198cm) was outstanding in several games this season with the Stingrays before a navicular stress fracture in his foot ended his season early.

But AFL clubs had seen enough of Big Mac to be impressed. And last week, the Frankston 18-year-old was invited to attend the AFL draft combine in October. “When I got the letter I had a big smile on face,” he said “It’s a huge opportunity.”

Wheeler said McCarthy possessed “elite, freakish ability”. “We stole him from basketball,” he said.

Plenty of upside if he is over his injury.

This kid has talent written all, over him. Might take him a season to get back into full swing of footy but well worth taking a punt on.
He might end up being the Jewel on our crown from this draft trade period really like what he brings to the table

Looks a decent punt.

Now we have enough talls, right?

This fella's an under the radar tall I reckon. He actually reminds me of Peter & Darcy Moore a bit. Moves well, a real hard worker, and an indigenous ruckman. Interesting cocktail. He reads it well and plays a bit like a small trapped in a ruckman's body.

Perhaps he meant ingenious ruckman?

Apparently he does have an Indigenous line in his mother's family, as the Saints were planning on offering him a spot in an Indigenous academy.

It was a long bow. Very long.

Anyway like any young key position prospect taken in the rookie draft he's a long shot but he at least has some strong physical attributes we can work with.

So was he. According to Emma Quayle's article Mitch's Mum only discovered her indigenous relatives a few years ago. I suspect Mitch's Mum might be from the stolen generation - welfare authorities were still taking aboriginal kids as late as the 1970s in Victoria.
