The highlights were from 2015 though; so hopefully the one game he was able to play in 2016 has improved him. |
Are you referring to his highlights on the CFC site? I hope not cause it shows a big kid who is strong in the air, moves well, seems composed and is a good kick.
Yes its a 20 second package but no sign of any obvious weaknesses. |

Sam is actually 197cm not the 193 reported on a number of sites.
Not a big fan of talls but it seems we've taken the right type. Sam has athleticism, pace and flexibility given he can play back and forward. As is often done with later picks it seems we took a kid who was rated more highly (top 20) but whose draft position dropped due to injury.
There were very few legitimate KPPs taken in this draft. Based on draft position, Sam is one of the top 2-3 in the country (one KPP and one ruck taken before him). It's possible that due to injury and a very strong midfielder draft, we may have got a steal.
Worried about this comment though:

Hear, hear.....someone had to say it.
Seriously, assuming his shoulder is now OK, after surgery in September, his highlights reel show me a tall, mobile, high marking, good kicking KPP with great game sense and decision-making. As others have noted, he is one of the top 3 talls in the draft, so he could end up being a real steal. He probably has to beef up a bit before playing in the seniors, but he could be a real beauty. |

Just thinking out loud and I don't want to sound pessimistic because I am fairly happy with what we got through the draft but.....
didn't we get some of those picks ( that we didn't use ), through trades for our players.
So effectively we weren't smart enough to foresee we were going to not use them? If that makes sense.. _________________ Carpe diem quam minimum credula postero. |

It's a good excuse to ignore an umpire telling you to come back on the mark
'Sorry ump, I didn't hear you!'
Works well |

I hadn't seen the one from the club's site, but after watching that one, I agree with you that he looks very impressive.
I was referring to this highlight reel from the 2015 TAC GF:

i think you are using hindsight to criticize the club. As a matter of fact, we didnt use all of the draft picks we stockpiled.
However, the reason to grab those picks was in case they were needed to match an unexpectedly high bid for Daics and Brown. I think it would have been a shame if a higher bid came in for us to go into deficit next year. I bet that factored in.
The other thing i would add is that even though we didnt take a fifth player in the draft this year, we had the option to do so if there was someone left at that pick that we really wanted. in other years we recruited guys like Langdon and Marsh late. I guess there just wasnt anyone that we wanted with that pick. Doesnt mean it was a mistake to preserve the option. _________________ Ohhh, the Premiership's a cakewalk ....... |
