Ok, so with 2 week to go it seems we have some facts that denote where we stand in terms of finalising our 2016 list positions. With draft selections:
Picks: 28, 44, 51, 62, 65, 83, 101, 119
Current state of play:
* We delisted 10 primary listed players
* Left us with 29 players
* upgraded 2 including: J Smith & L Keefe
* Added 4 recruits Wells, Dunn, Mayne & Hoskin Elliott
Summary:
* leaves us with 35 Primary listed players
* 1 Rookie player in J Thomas
* 1 Category B in M Cox
Father Sons:
* + 2 likely in J Daicos & C Brown likely added
* likely to cost us selections 44,51,62 & 83
Draft Night?
* Likely to use 28: Best tall defender type (eg. Ridley, Cox, Rotham)
* Pick 65 best player available
Summary:
Shall leave us with a list of 39 players which seems to be Hine's preferred number going on past seasons. Allows the flexibility to upgrade Mason Cox for round 1 of the season.
Outlier:
The most interesting thing may be the continued "non-signing of Blair". He is the only free agent yet to secure a signature on any AFL primary list. May be Hine and the Pies despite an offer to him are keeping their options open as they have done between 2013-2015 when we secured Marsh, Langdon, Crocker etc...
With the draft being strong and running deep, there may be a fallen gem that Hine likes better than Blair. Hoping so!
Rookie Draft:
* With J Thomas as our only retained rookie, expect Hine to select 4 players here. If history serves as a precursor expect to see players from Redland in QAFL and Oakleigh Chargers that fall out of the main draft as likely targets.
Hope this helps. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Thanks. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out and how close you are to what transpires. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

Yeah strong draft this year and it's a pity we couldn't "trade up into the top 20" with both Frost and Witts going to clubs with lots of picks. We got pick pocketed here! _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

We will not use pick 83 for Brown or Daicos, no points associated to it, we will more than likely have to use pick 65. |

Do we have to upgrade Mason Cox or can we just play him
I thought the normal Rookies could only be upgraded on the back of a long term injury but the Cat B could play? without an injury! _________________ Bucks you just reckon he can still cut it in the middle |

It's a moving beast at the moment with mooted changes to the whole Primary:Rookie list structure. Traditionally my understanding is that if a team runs with 39 Primary list players and not the traditional 40, a club can upgrade any Rookie be it a Category A or B Rookie before Round 1.
Hine has leant towards this list management strategy the last couple of years as opposed to being stuck with 40 and having no flexibility come eachMarch if we incur injuries pre-season.
From a fantasy football perspective it would be great just to have 44 players to allocate accordingly anytime! Hope this explanation helps. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

Hey inx88 - I believe the AFL have changed the rules this year so that late picks where no primary list spot exists are deleted pre-draft and cannot be used for matching bids. The updated "Final Order of Selection" I have from the AFL shows us having picks 28 (677 DVI points), 44 (362 DVI points), 51 (259 DVI points), 61 (135 DVI points) and 64 (101 DVI points). _________________ All We Can Be |

Wouldn't we be using 83 and 101 to elevate Smith and Keeffe to our list? _________________ Born and raised in Black and White |

Not 100% sure but I think I heard they do that automatically now and not as part of the draft. That would make sense given the final draft order. _________________ All We Can Be |
