Well after 108 years the Chicago Cubs finally won
The World Series.
I was interested to read about the curse that was put on them by
the owner of the goat mascot whose goat got kicked out for being smelly.
Reminded me of the Colliwobbles curse that was finally laid to rest (litrerally) in 1990.
108 years waiting for some silverware.
Makes our waiting 32 years just a walk in the park.

Well DTM you always live in hope.
No matter how long the road is.
The club lives forever but we don't.
So the silverware will happen one day even if the club finally wins in the next century.

As Cubs fans used to say "any team can have a bad century".

Collingwood's history is more like the red sox than the cubs. Red Sox had the curse of the Bambino that was ended about 10 years ago after about 86 years.

The Red Sox, like us, were always a great team that somehow kept finding sad ways to lose championships. Bill Bucknor, etc.

Cubs are more like the bulldogs than us because not only did they have a long drought, they were awful for most of the 108 years. This was their first World Series since 1945 and they finished last most years since them (other than a brief surge in 2006).

Ironically, the vanquished side of Cleveland have their own drought that is kept in tact. 68 years and counting.

Baseball is different to aussie rules though because there is no salary cap so very few teams are capable of winning most years.

I honestly thought I'd never see the Cubs win a world series.

I thought I'd never see my team win it (White Sox). But that happened in 05.

I've always thought that the World Series is the hardest of all sports trophies to win.

From WIKIPEDIA
The Curse of the Bambino was a superstition evolving from the failure of the Boston Red Sox baseball team to win the World Series in the 86-year period from 1918 to 2004. While some fans took the curse seriously, most used the expression in a tongue-in-cheek manner. This misfortune began after the Red Sox sold star player Babe Ruth, sometimes called The Bambino, to the New York Yankees in the off-season of 1919–1920. Before that point, the Red Sox had been one of the most successful professional baseball franchises, winning the first World Series and amassing five World Series titles.[3] After the sale they went without a title for decades, even while the Red Sox won four American League championships from 1914 to 1918, as the previously lackluster Yankees became one of the most successful franchises in North American professional sports. The curse became a focal point of the Yankees–Red Sox rivalry over the years.

Talk of the curse as an ongoing phenomenon ended in 2004, when the Red Sox came back from a 0–3 best-of-seven deficit to beat the Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series (ALCS) and then went on to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals to win the 2004 World Series. The curse had been such a part of Boston culture that when a "reverse curve" road sign on Longfellow Bridge over the city's busy Storrow Drive was graffitied to read "Reverse The Curse", officials left it in place until after the Red Sox won the 2004 Series. After the Red Sox won the last game of the World Series that year, the road sign was edited to read "Curse Reversed" in celebration.

I also didn't realize that baseball didn't have a salary cap.

Yes, with the Woods, I think in ones lifetime, if one can live and see, say, six flags, one has done pretty well, - I have seen four. Compared to say, the saints or the Deeees, massive droughts now, and even the dogs, have won just two since 1925. They are just sooooo hard to win, I have always said, the GF is very hard too make, but actually winning it, is a whole lot harder, everything must go right, with an ounce of luck too. Surprised
