We now have 10 defenders that are 190cm or taller:
- Reid
- Keefe
- Goldsack
- Scharenberg
- Langdon
- Howe
- Dunn
- McClarty
- Schade
- McCarthy
So, much for the world ending when Brown and Frost left.
We now have the following ruck options:
- Grundy
- Cox
- Keefe
- White
- Lynch
- McCarthy
- McClarty
So, much for the world ending because Witts was traded. |

We have drafted height & hopefully drafted wisely.
However, should (& heaven forbid) we lose Grundy early (say to a fractured cornrow) who do we put in as full time first ruck?
No one mentioned or thought that the world was going to end by trading Witts but concern was expressed over the lack of Ruck stocks. We had no choice but to trade Witts & people voiced their concerns about a replacement (relatively experienced) ruck. (Mind you I still think we got unders for Witts) _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman

It does look on that data, MT, that Dekka and the crew have come through ok. Schade looks an interesting one as he already has AFL experience and has done ok in a weakened Sun's backline. Not sure why they let him go but hopefully it will be a bargain for us. _________________ No one needs to get hurt, it's only business. |

Mate doesn't matter now but Marshall had been plying his trade in the VFL for 2/3yrs at 204cm and had filled in in defence. Keitel had been the WAFL for a couple seasons had a break out hear this year but we went in a difference direction
Don't mind our pick ups all there abouts |

Suns website says Schade signed a 2 year extension through 2017 ... what happened there? _________________ All We Can Be |

Yes we can train them up for Hawthorn & GCS _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Ruck wise w still have the national draft so we might take someone there I guess.
But we have Grundy White Cox really as our only true ruck options. If Grundy went down we would have to play Cox with White as his back up and use maybe like Keefe when the ball is deep in defence.
I'm assuming we believe Grundy has durability on his side going on history so we will cross our fingers.
If he does go down we may look at what th Bulldogs did and just use White around the ground for his athletism and just try to make it a contest at ground level |

Can you try to do it without snide?

The answer to your first question is No. I have read so much utter negative rubbish on this site it defies belief.
The answer to your 2nd question is Cox. Listen to any of our gun midfielders talk about Cox's ruck work, they love it because they know he will get the tap and they know where he is going to tap it. Many people on this site mentioned that we were stuffed because we traded Witts, not even close to the actual reality. |

They delisted him and said they were going to re rookie him, but we beat them to the punch. I wonder if Carlton hadn't picked up Alex Silvagni with the pick before ours whether we would have gone Silvagni over Schade. |

I agree about the tap work but have very little confidence he has the skills / smarts / experience yet to say play down back as our no 1 ruck etc.
I would love for you to say I told you so in 12 months time though _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |

Agree he has some things to work on, especially with what to do if he is in deep defence, but his marking and work around the ground in 2016 was at times excellent. Given his speed of development to date, I am backing him to come on leaps and bounds in 2017. |

Too slow and a shit kick. Sadly the modern game doesn't suit his ilk.....despite his apparent ability to get the ball. |
Sounds very much like a certain former Hawthorn centerman, now at West Coast. |

Both drafts seem to be "business as usual" drafts rather than throwing everything at 2017 and forgoing the future - I had the feeling going in that we may go "all in" on 2017 with our draft choices (ie AFL ready guys with, perhaps, less upside). A good sign that the club isn't reacting to perceived external pressure on the coach I think (and I think that whatever ends up happening with Bucks). _________________ All We Can Be |

More than enough talls. Too many for mine, though I guess we need to plan for some being useless. It's good that 2-3 of them are on the Rookie list rather than clogging up our main list. _________________ Well done boys! |
