Unlike some I will form my opinions of our status based upon our results, who we have played, how well we and our opposition have played, the game plan as applied and our injury status.
As an example, some had North challenging for the 2016 flag mid season based upon results but others did not hold the same confidence due to the nature of their wins and their lack of depth. Those who were more analytical and balanced in their approach were closer to the mark. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

You can fall out of the finals if you are better than 4-4 but you usually can't make it if you ain't I think history shows. _________________ Get back on top. |

Interesting will be the make up of our side. Will the likes of Scharenberg Ramsay Langdon Fasalo Keefe Elliott Thomas get a run straight off the bat or will last years side that played well in the last round get first jump ?
Will the new recruits automatically get selected or will they have to earn a spot ?
Yes Brown Cloke Williams Witts are gone but none of them would have been considered walk up starts in our best 22 for 2017.
Our game plan (looking at our recruiting) is going to be run carry and take the game on style which you need better than average skills to bring off so there may be several, changes forced just to fulfil this style.
For mine I think Wells WHE will be definite starters round 1. Dunn & Mayne may start depending on the preseason form of others or the make up of the side.
As for those coming off injury or suspension the preseason and NAB cup games may be the best guide to there chances.
From last year I see only
Moore
White
Grundy
Pendles
Treloar
Varcoe
Aish
Sidey
Reid
Adams
Howe
Being certain starters for round 1 leaving 11 spots up for grabs
Smith Greenwood Crisp Wills Phillips Crocker Maynard Sinclair Oxley Blair Broomhead will all be in the hunt for a starting spot with a couple having runs on the board from 2016.
If we can get to round 1 with no injuries to our top liners and have healthy competition for places we should hit the ground running |
