We could do worse than plonk him at CHF and as WL said, protect Mr Darcy for a couple of years. Dawes was never really a typical forward, he was an interesting link man with decent awareness and reasonable accuracy when goalkicking. I think he could offer something.

This.

Dawesy did us no harm as a player when he was here. He tried his guts out in his 'Pies jumper but couldn't play the ruck/forward role asked of him after Leigh Brown retired and fell away after that.

I don't think he would add much to Collingwood, now, but it saddens me when people are unkind about players who are, after all, heroes of our Club. It's not really necessary to be disrespectful.

I think fondly of him and wish him all the best for the future.

Totally agree. I don't think bringing him back would be in our best interests, but we should be grateful he was a part of something special in 2010.

Supporters seem to forget he was actually a good player in 2010/2011, but he fell away after that for whatever reason and he was never able to improve at Melbourne after he left.

I think injuries were a thing that hurt him throughout his time at Melbourne, it also to me seemed once he broke his hand he lost a lot of confidence himself and always feared re-hurting it. Then he got a bit injury prone and I think that was it for him.

Perhaps lower leagues he will find some form again, either VFL or lower and have a good career there. I think as an AFL player he's done sadly for him.

But wont forget his time at Collingwood before he departed. Premiership player, never can be taken away.

The romance of bringing him back would be brilliant! Always struck me as a really really nice guy, you didn't hear him bag the club when he was pushed out. All class. All the best mate, always a magpie champion premiership player.

I'd like to see him go to Nort Melbourne with Nathan Brown, both have the Shinboner Spirit - by that I mean both spend an extraordinary amount of game time on their shins.

Damn straight. He did that quite a few times too.

Laughing

It should help them that North only play 9 games a season. Embarassed

I doubt it. Dawes left the club in very shitty circumstances.

The club wont even think about taking him back.

I doubt he'd want to play under Bucks again. And I doubt Bucks would want him back.

Strangely though, I'd like to see it.

Yes. But I guess there is a much room for that as there is sentiment.

Yes, we could do worse, but it's just not going to happen. Even if some weird part of me wants to see him return.

see AnInkling's thread on kpp/liabilities.
unfortunately you wouldn't have him taking the field only for protection for moore. that would make no sense at all.
anywho he's achieved a shit load through his short afl career so good luck to him for that.

I always thought he had problems seeing the ball. Off field he wears glasses, so he is obviously visually impaired. On the ground he regularly dropped chest marks and rarely took a mark above his head. Nice guy and an OK player, but not really good enough for senior football imo.

I think he was a quite reasonable mark early on but he did have eye trouble and I'm fairly confident that part of his drop away happened after some laser eye-surgery while he was at Collingwood.

His body falls apart.

He was never the same since he broke his knuckle and did a calf in 2012.

Not the answer.

I am amazed he is remembered for a handball he kicked two telling goals in the second half of the replay including the first of the third and the last when we needed to seal the game
I will always remember when he belted Dawson and got the ball to either Sidey or Wellers in the third quarter resulting in another

Gee we rookied Golds last year, we have traded for Dunn surely we could use 105 for Dawsey, gee we carried Keefe and Thomas for two years

Agreed. Even as insurance. He'd play more vfl footy than afl but he's experienced and smart and a great team player
