I once watched Dawes in 2011 or maybe it was 2012 at a night game at the MCG.
He accidentally hurt Mitch Brown.
He stopped playing and went over to help Mitch.
Meanwhile, 2 WCE players grabbed the ball and took it down field.
I couldn't believe it.
He has no mongrel in him at all.
Bit like Witts.
I also remember that great handball he gave off in the first
GF in 2010 whilst he was sitting on the ground.
He has talent but certain aspects of his game needs fixing.
I don't know whether we should make a play for him.

Yes I remember the debate on this site over that incident! And I think the final thinking was well it's Browns brother! I actually liked him for that. Well I always liked him. Reminds me of the Brisbane guy(pretty sure it was Brisbane) that stoppedto help Blake Caracalla when he hurt his neck. I don't have a problem with that.

I saw something tonight that I have not seen ever in 50 years! Dawes helped a Weagles player whilst the ball was still in play and it basically went past him. Was I dreaming or was this true!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if true it was a disgrace. I have always been a big Dawes fan but at the moment - no way!

Yep.
It was the fact that Dawes stopped
and the WCE players didn't and they swept the ball forward.
Anyway it was 2012 and not 2011.
I'm glad I said I was a big Dawes fan but I was not happy that night.
Anyway, by memory most people agreed that I was wrong to criticize him.
And people like TP shot me down.

He could be a pretty decent reserves captain.

This.

Dawesy did us no harm as a player when he was here. He tried his guts out in his 'Pies jumper but couldn't play the ruck/forward role asked of him after Leigh Brown retired and fell away after that.

I don't think he would add much to Collingwood, now, but it saddens me when people are unkind about players who are, after all, heroes of our Club. It's not really necessary to be disrespectful.

I think fondly of him and wish him all the best for the future.

Pay him minimum chips and it can't hurt us too bad.

He can be a big body up forward to protect Moore.

No problems for a late draft pick.

Very good point WL.
But a few on here would think he is not mobile enough.
Any comment on that

I loved watching this bloke tear it up in the VFL and then finally making the AFL, injuries to his hand and knees appeared to have taken there toll. He is only 28, but seems it's the end.

Brutal game AFL.

Great, great post. Chris Dawes = quality human.

Hear hear. I for one shed a little tear (metaphorically) when he got the traded. An honest player, but purely a forward and never a ruck, and somewhat little hard done by imo.

I wouldn't want him back as a player, once he retires he can come enjoy premiership reunions but I think he's as good as cooked now. Too many injuries for him.

Good luck in the future, Chris, I wish you nothing but success.

Got the most out of his limited physical limited ability but shall definitely get the most out of his "mental ability". Good luck Chris in "Lawyer town", hopefully all Pies fans won't need you later on!
