Post subject: Quoting a quoted quoteReply with quote

Please exercise some discretion before using the Quote button in a reply.

Ask yourself, can the other recognisably intelligent (and good-looking) Nicksters simply scroll up a little way to see the post to which you are no doubt making an erudite and thoughtful reply?

Consider too whether its really necessary to quote a quoted quote that's already done the same - sometimes to the extent that we end up with one line of reply, over-shadowed by the 50 nested lines from the 20 quotes above it.

And always remember that you can always edit the quote to include just the phrase you think is relevant. Select and delete anything unwanted between the 2 [ quote ]...[ /quote ] tags (spaces used here to avoid formatting).

You can even use the Preview button to check just how startlingly concise and to the point your contribution will be.

Thanks...the mods team

(And please resist the urge to demonstrate what the multiple quoting would look like in this thread. Everyone's seen that one coming...)

Yes too many looooong quotes.
It does distract.
I have tried to just give a response without the quote.
That is a work in progress for me.
I will try harder in future.
Thanx mods for that reminder.

A quote function is great for referring back to previous posts, like I'm doing now. It's not so great when I'm quoting stuff 5+ posts deep that isn't even relevant to what is being discussed. Razz

Just learn to use it properly and there are no issues. I've always disliked having 50 nested quotes in a reply. Good call mods.

You're not going to get anywhere by screaming at us. Cut it out.

Take a valium Dave.

It's not hard to edit a post so you only quote the bit you want to respond to. People who quote posts with multiple quotes already in it make the thread unreadable.
