5 from the Wing, a board's duty is to enquire into the operational decisions of the executive (eg. Pert, Gubby etc). Questions about Collingwood's expenditure obviously come up for analysis.

Caro makes it plain, brazenly so, in her story that her source is a Collingwood board member. It is a fact. Unless she is bullshitting, but I don't think so. Whatever we make may think of her as a journalist she is no fool regarding the legal consequences of her writings (and neither are the lawyers at Fairfax, her masters).

EDIT: Hope the mods get a warm and fuzzy feeling seeing me refrain from 'qoting a quote'.

Caro and facts - Mutually exclusive. It is an insult to our club directors to suggest that they would even consider talking to Caro let alone illegally leaking information.

Not a Carro fan, but nearly every 'assumption' she printed into what was going to happen to the Essendon players ended up panning out.

Our core business is CFC and if you think that the women's teams won't cost money and resources then that is just dopey.
Can't wait for the equal pay scenario in a few years time.
The point is.... will the girls teams generate enough money in terms of the gate or media rights to pay for itself...I think not. Then it boils down the notion that it will generate a net benefit to the overall support base for CFC.
The extra resources in terms of fitness or training could have been achieved by spending more on the footy dept. and paying the extra tax.
There may be problems in terms of culture and time issues with certain specialists areas.
Who knows twhat problems /issues it will throw up in the next few years.
It is an unknown.

Is there a direct correlation between the amount of money you spend on the football department and the results on the footy field? We have the most politicians per head of population in the world and it hasn't led to better government in this country. Don't see why we have to hire more assistants to produce better footballers. As long as you have a good close knit group of coaches, a good training ground and a good gym, the results should follow, I would have thought.

These new quote rules are very confusing! This wasn't me, who actually said it!

The US Republican Party is more cohesive than the CFC. Debacle.

Follow up reporting on Fairfax media this evening:

McGuire said Collingwood had contingency provisions in place, presumably in the case that Allan could not take up his position at the Pies.

McGuire also dismissed claims he was under pressure over the decision to appoint Allan.

Fairfax Media reported on Wednesday that Collingwood staff were angry popular football boss Neil Balme had been replaced by Allan for the 2017 season and as a result, president McGuire's position had begun to look tenuous for the first time.

"I read in The Age I'm going to get the sack," he said. "I'm going nowhere."

McGuire denied rumours that recently departed Melbourne coach Paul Roos was headed to the Pies in some capacity, saying the club had not spoken to the respected football industry veteran.

I understand how boards work. I assume in this case a business plan, including financial projections, was provided to the board before it was discussed and the relevant resolutions were passed. What can have changed in such a short period of time?

There is nothing you have referred to that confirms that a board member was the source. You may read between the lines of what was reported and take that view but I have noted the language that she has used. On my reading all she was doing was speculating about Collingwood in a period with no other football news and in the absence of this supposed story, nothing else to write about.

You may believe that one of our board members would seek to destabilise the club for personal benefit but without any evidence of that, and without Wilson even alleging that has occurred, it should not even be open for consideration.

Oh lookie I'm back in high school!

Cut it out!

It seems to be a dumb decision, a bad look, hopefully the club knows something we don't, and disaster is avoided. Otherwise at the very least, close ranks and mouths and take it on the chin. It's too late now.

Man I can't wait for round 1!

What, there are extra terrestrials on the Collingwood board and the GWS board?

It's pretty simple. Ignore list posters you can't handle. If enough people. Ignore someone then they'll get bored and go away. Or it might just be you that's got the problem but the ignore button will fix that problem too.

It's a lot like people complaining about Caro or the HS. If you don't like them, don't read them. Your world won't end.
