25 wickets fell on the first day of the 1902 Ashes Test in Melbourne. At stumps, Australia was 5/48 in its second innings, with a 100 lead or so after making 112 and bowling England out for 61 (in 15.4 overs). Australia was in serious trouble at 8/167 in the second dig but two late partnerships (including a tenth wicket stand of 120) rallied Australia to 353. England managed 175 in the chase and lost by 229 runs. |

Hopefully Voges and Ferguson NEVER PLAY AGAIN, and can piss off back to the Shield where they excel at mediocrity.
Seriously, they are worse selections than Quinney and Marcus North.
No doubt some random from NSW will get a surprise selection call up, instead of a Victorian batsman.
Bet both the Marsh brothers were pissing themselves laughing that they weren't out there for this farce. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Rob Quiney can't get a game for Victoria.
Marcus North played his last first class match over 2 years ago.
Top 5 batsmen in Sheffield Shield, this season.
Vic. - Marcus Harris 267 runs @ 89.00
Tas. - George Bailey 259 @ 86.33
NSW - Kurtis Patterson 222 @ 55.50
WA - Shaun Marsh 183 @ 91.50
Vic. - Cameron White 174 @ 87.00 _________________ Donny.

Donny, good stats.
Rob Quiney was thrown to the wolves against RSA four summers ago - sink or swim. Gurgle, gurgle... them's the breaks.
Marcus North ahead of Hodge; this still makes me ill.
Just quickly, would you have played Jackson Bird on his home deck, ahead of Joe Mennie [who didn't bowl too badly...]?
What are Bailey's chances of coming out of exile?
About as high as Klinger ever getting a look in?
And Doolan - another flash in the pan?
Let me be the first schmuck to say this - we are now really feeling the loss of Phil Hughes nearly two years on. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Bird seemed an obvious pick for Bellerive but, for whatever reason, the selectors picked 12 for the first 2 Tests, so were obliged to play Mennie, after Sids got injured.
Yes, Bails is a chance for Voges' spot. Would add stability. As an 'aged' (he's 34) player, he has been batting well in the ODIs, whereas Klinger (36) has never been selected for either Tests or ODIs. Both average 40 in first class cricket.
Re. Hughes. He wasn't in the Test team when he demised, tragically. Chris Rogers was Warner's opening partner. Hughes was tried and found wanting, in Tests. Khawaja, Burns and S Marsh have since been preferred. _________________ Donny.

Some pundits are being a bit tough on the Test team
Michael Clarke, Brad Haddin, Shane Watson, Mitchell Johnson, Chris Rogers and Ryan Harris all retired, over the last 18 months.
All, with the possible exception of Watto, were very good to great players. _________________ Donny.

Donny, I thought by November 2014 that Hughes was again finding form in the Shield for SA, and the media suggested he was a given to be recalled into the middle order of test team, after failed stints opening?
Not suggesting that had he never been felled in 2014, that he would be the saviour of the current test team, or that he could have changed the results of the past two series losses. But i'd back him to make more runs than our inept and flacid batting line up of Voges, Ferguson and Burns, that's for sure. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

I think they 'shelved' Doolan, 2 years ago but he's put his name up to the selectors with a not out century, today.
Bails may be brought in to shore up the middle order, despite scoring just 24, today. Cam White could be the bolter, to do that job. Last 2 knocks ? 104 n.o. and 75 n.o., today.
Klinger remains 'one of the best to never play for Oz'. _________________ Donny.
