My best 22 after trade period:

B Ramsay Reid Howe
C Langdon Goldsack Scharenberg
C WHE Treloar Sidey
HF Wells Moore Elliott
F Fasolo Cox Mayne
R Grundy Adams Pendlebury
IC Aish De Goey Crisp Broomhead

Maynard and/or Sinclair would be ins if the opposition had multiple small forwards.
I would use a rotation of the gun midfielders off half back when they are resting out of the midfield.
Going with Cox over White, as he is a better 2nd ruck option.
Dunn: a backup defender.
Keefe: backup defender and ruckman.
White: back up forward and defender.

FB: Goldsack - Dunn - Howe
HB: Maynard - Reid - Adams

C: Wells - Pendlebury - Sidebottom

HF: Varcoe - Moore - Hoskin-Elliott
FF: Mayne - White - Fasolo

R: Grundy - Treloar - Greenwood

Int: Aish - Smith - De-Goey - Crisp

I feel this is quite realistic, taking into account the following;

Ramsay, Sharenberg, Sinclair, Elliott, Langdon and Broomhead would need to come back via the VFL to prove themselves again. They simply haven't played enough footy.

Marsh is a complete unknown at this stage. Id say a long chance to be available for round 1.

Blair, Crocker, Wills, Phillips, Seir, Oxley and Cox are nice depth, outside of the above list that will hopefully be available from their LTI.

Its great to see so many variations to the team sheet ! Really pleasing. This tells me we are starting to get enough depth and flexibility through the midfield and half back. I count up to 10-13 players with the ability run through the midfield. Its going to be a really exciting time to watch each player make their mark before the best mix settles.

If everyone meets their potential, this is what I reckon it looks like...

B Howe Dunn Ramsay
HB Adams Reid Maynard
C Hoskin-Elliot Treloar Wells
HF Elliot White Sidebottom
F Fasolo Moore Broomhead

Foll Grundy Pendles Wills

Int Crisp, Aish, Greenwood, Mayne

Em

Goldsack – backup for Howe, Reid or Dunn and could replace Ramsay when bigger body needed
Blair – replaces Broomhead when pressure needs a lift
Sinclair – replaces Maynard. If he plays his best, we have huge transition from half back – but I think Maynard will take to another level this year and make it hard for him
Langdon – its hard for me to see a place in best 22 – he’s style lends to holding up play - Backup only.
Varcoe – a very decent utility backup at half-back/wing/high forward. He may make it hard for WHE to find a spot if he plays well
Smith – very dependable and knows game style like back of his hand. Half back replacement.
De Goey – hmmm, he’d want to find himself this year. Could go either way. High forward backup but could force his way in.
Crocker – got to like the kid. He plays with total commitment and I can see him being a very good utility backup. I’m tipping he will get the best out of himself.
Keefe – backup FB and Ruck. I’m expecting him to force Dunn from the team but may depend on match ups week to week
Thomas – could explode and make a name for himself. Backup midfield.
Oxley – VFL leadership and handy depth
Cox – to avoid being one-dimensional, he needs to develop better ruck craft this year and could be anything
Scharenberg – if fit and strong his class would be good anywhere – still a wildcard

Hello there. That's a rather sweeping generalization. How did you decide?

Ramsey. Dunn. Keefe.
Maynard. Reid. Howe.
Sidebottom. Adams. Wells.
WHE. White. Varcoe.
De Goey. Moore. Fasolo.
Grundy. Pendlebury. Treloar.
Scharenburg. Aish. Mayne. Elliot.
Then I looked at who I'd missed and saw Crisp, Greenwood, Cox, Blair, Goldsack,Sinclair, Smith, Phillips!!! Got some problems at selection I reckon😃I guess it will give the whiners something to moan about.

Welcome AverageAdsy

I don't mind your team. In a similar vein, I'd like to see Broomhead in your team.
Ramsay to hald back and can take Varcoe's spot.

maybe the much maligned, but much improved Sinclair for Goldsack too.

It's going to be an interesting Pre Season. Game Plan, who plays in what positions and who will be actually fit to play will make practice matches worth viewing. I have forgotten the last time we basically had a full fit list to choose from so selecting a team for me is too hard. I will revisit in March 2017.

Unless Ramsay, Scharenberg, Sinclair, Elliott, Langdon and Broomhead have blitzing pre-seasons I cant see them playing round 1. Even throw Josh Thomas and Lachlan Keefe into that mix.

I for one don't want to be taking these guys with little to no footy under the belts in 12 months against the reigning premier.

Interesting this selection debate.
I think a lot will depend on who we play (it's the Bulldogs now we know) and what style of play we want to try.
I'm working off the premise we are going to try to play quick attacking football running carrying and taking the game on as much as possible
Looking at our recruits we have added to the players who can play that style.

So all being fair and equal with no injuries to think of I would name the said as follows

Howe Keefe Ramsay
Varcoe Reid Scharenberg
Wells Treloar Aish
Mayne WHE Sidey
White Moore DeGoey
Grundy Adams Pendles
Int Maynard Elliott Crisp Langdon
Emg Smith Oxley Dunn Sinclair

Think the side is balanced and full of run. We have skill loaded in our backline and speed through the middle and mobility up forward coupled with good kicks and tacklers
Bench allows us to keep the pace of the game quick and gives us options back forward and midfield
White plays 2nd ruck and if anything happens Keefe can pinch hit. We can swing Howe forward if required or Varcoe . We have several interchangeable players to make match ups work. I haven't gone with a tagger or a run with type instead backing us to win our ball and keep it.

From the guys at afl.com.au;

Quote:
B: Tyson Goldsack, Lynden Dunn, Ben Sinclair
HB:Jeremy Howe, Ben Reid, Brayden Maynard
C: Daniel Wells, Adam Treloar, Steele Sidebottom
HF: Chris Mayne, Jesse White, Will Hoskin-Elliott
F: Jamie Elliott, Darcy Moore, Alex Fasolo
R: Brodie Grundy, Scott Pendlebury, Taylor Adams
INT: Travis Varcoe, Jack Crisp, Josh Smith, James Aish
EMERG: Jordan De Goey, Levi Greenwood, Tom Langdon

The addition of free agents Wells and Mayne, along with promising ex-Giant Hoskin-Elliott has added class and depth to a strong midfield and the Pies now look decidedly more dangerous forward of the centre. The major issue is the full-back role after they released both Nathan Brown and Jack Frost and controversially threw ex-Demon Dunn a lifeline. The Pies could look for more coverage among delisted free agents and the draft pool, and versatile veteran Goldsack might well reignite his career on the last line.

NOT CONSIDERED: Jack Ramsay and Matt Scharenberg (unrealistic to place high expectations on them after undergoing knee reconstructions), Lachlan Keeffe and Josh Thomas (even more unrealistic to expect this pair to find their feet quickly after missing two seasons with doping suspensions) and Tim Broomhead (highly talented but injury-prone). - Ben Collins

Pretty much on the money I reckon.

For various reasons, big question marks will remain over Scharenberg, Ramsay, Cox, Keeffe, Thomas, Sinclair and Broomhead. If most of these are able to make a positive contribution in the second half of the season, then we will be a much, much improved team imo.
