Our game holds up well against them and GWS who are the other one coming through. Dogs just won the flag from 7th spot, anything is possible.

Spot on stui, these are the teams we are going to have to beat in the years to come.

You have to beat the likes of Melbourne, StKilda, Carlton, Richmond, North etc to qualify for the finals. No point being able to beat the Dogs and GWS but lose other games and not even make it to the finals.

What we need to compete is consistency, ie. don't lose to the teams below us. Adding experience and the maturing of our current players will help this. Depth though, with a healthy list is the main key to consistency.

I have concerns against Crows, Eagles, Swans and Power. We need to lift our running power to match these teams. There's no other team that holds real fears for us.
we need to compete something.

Sarcasm is such a beautiful thing. What a game from Tom Boyd, gee I hope you can make this happen next year, Cloke for Boyd bring it on.

The Bulldogs were the best team all day, it was the Swans defense holding it together until the last quarter.

Well done Bullies, love watching them play.

Buddy rolling his ankle in the first quarter severely limited him as well.

Hannebery injuring his knee in the last quarter when his run was desperately needed didn't help.

Luck was with the doggies today and this past month.

Can't argue with any of that, bullies had some players down as well. Stringer was terrible, Daniel very quiet.

But yeah Buddy was a big loss. Hannebery is very tough, should not have come back on.

Let's hope we get some luck next year.

And we are able to beat them. If anyone doubts this they are too caught up in forum wars to see clearly. Lack of consistency cost us this year, a more even season and we are some chance of competing. Key to that will be adding experience and a better run with injuries.

I'm not saying we should be considered one of the favourites. It's an even comp and it will be a real battle just to make the 8. There are plenty of teams that can make it next year and few of the finalists would be completely confident of making it again, even the Dogs. We are though a definite chance. Our list is young and just starting to mature enough, with only top end experience missing. The talent and depth is there, now we need to put it together and have better fortune with injuries.

Perhaps I'm just expressing my own concern about it.

Of course we are able. Every club is able to beat every other team. So by your argument, every team can contend in 2017.

Form / consistency isn't like a tap that you turn on and off at your choosing. Why are we losing to these bottom 8 teams? If we can't overcome this deficiency, then we're stuffed.

Exactly. We can match it with some of the top 8 teams, yet we lost twice to Melbourne, lost to StKilda, Richmond, Carlton, North. It's these losses that are holding us back.

yep. Sign of a young team, lifts against the good teams, gets beaten by the lower ones. We need to break that and bank the games we should win. We do that, we're a top 8 team.

Richmond have had 12 coaches in 36 years since their last flag. Obviously changing the coach is all you need to do. Rolling Eyes

Grab any random stat you like, but the bottom line is whatever has been going on down here at pieland hasn't been working... for a long time now.

Yeah. We have trouble with the outside run of Hawthorn, Port and Adelaide, but these two teams don't worry me at all. Buckley is good coaching against sides who like it close and tight. We need to tweak the list - another tall defender is needed, we could do with another small forward and a tall forward to help out Moore. More outside run through the centre would help also. And then we have a team which could go all the way in 2017 if a bit of luck goes our way.

Enjoy your preseason bagging Bucks, By this time in 12 months we'll have either made the finals or he's gone and in either case you'll have nothing to post about as you're a 1 hit wonder.

Who knows what will happen in 12 months, but I'm suspecting it won't be anything like what we saw happening today for the Dogs.. woof woof Laughing

^He might be lucky (ie we'll fail as he clearly hopes we do), or he'll disappear and reincarnate with his one-note song whenever things get rough again. I reckon he's a goner, but we'll see.

Remember the Dogs started their rebuild after 2010 and finished 10th in 2011, 15th in 2012, 15th in 2013, 14th in 2014 before making the finals in 2015.

They went about it the right way, that is, they stripped their list right back and started again. To be successful this is what you need to do, take your medicine, rebuild and then give it another crack.

We have done it the right way and have done the hardwork and the rewards will be reaped. I for one hope that Bucks gets to reap the rewards for being unselfish.

Unfortunately, for Brendan McCartney he did a large majority of the work rebuilding the Dogs and won't get the credit he deserves. He taught them the defensive game that you saw be so successful today.

Rebuilds, top ups, slow burns and quick fixes ...there is no one way of doing things.
You really need to just make a call one way or the other.
Remember that Carlton banner....you know we are coming.
Well they fired a blank!
Don't be so certain about how things are done.
