We're light years behind both clubs who played today in regards to our football department in the way they think, plan about the game and form relationships with the players.
This is before we even worry about our comparatively inferior talent and fitness levels; as well as the unbalanced nature of the list.

Competition is very even. Our young list when it is fully available is as good as any in the comp. Bring on 2017.

We showed we can match it with the Bulldogs this year. Next year could well be the year of the Pies!

Luck will, as always play a part, so provided we have luck with injuries and other things like venues etc. we can give it a shot.

Should have beaten doggies both times this year, so not far away.

Remember, no bye after round 23 and does anyone believe that the doggies would have beaten the Eagles in Perth?

Sarcasm is such a beautiful thing. What a game from Tom Boyd, gee I hope you can make this happen next year, Cloke for Boyd bring it on.

The Bulldogs were the best team all day, it was the Swans defense holding it together until the last quarter.

Well done Bullies, love watching them play.

We are no where close.
We'll struggle to make the 8.

Our game holds up well against them and GWS who are the other one coming through. Dogs just won the flag from 7th spot, anything is possible.

Surely they'd at least want White as the swap?

Exactly. We can match it with some of the top 8 teams, yet we lost twice to Melbourne, lost to StKilda, Richmond, Carlton, North. It's these losses that are holding us back.

Does anyone watching today's game still think we are miles away from competing? I think every team in the comp would be watching this and thinking they're not far away. The standard has not been high. Whatsmore both team's success has been built on effort and pressure, which is our number 1 focus and something we do very well when on. Do this consistently and we match the top teams.

I have no concerns about the Dogs or Giants, we can match them. The Swans and Crows were a bit too strong and hard running for us, but I think we can bridge the gap and took steps in the second half of the year.

The top teams are not prime Hawks or Cats anymore, they are very much beatable. The Dogs, Eagles, Giants have all leapt up from 12th or lower into the finals. What we've seen this year is anyone in the finals is a chance given the evenness of the comp. The major challenge will be getting there. I think you'd have to be pretty pessimistic to say we are no chance next season. This is why I support our efforts to draft in experience, we are primed for an assault.

You're right on the money here. Twice we could have beaten the Doggies this year. So happy for them and their supporters. That'll be us soon!!!

Spot on stui, these are the teams we are going to have to beat in the years to come.

So, we'll win it from 12th?

Buddy rolling his ankle in the first quarter severely limited him as well.

Hannebery injuring his knee in the last quarter when his run was desperately needed didn't help.

Luck was with the doggies today and this past month.

What we need to compete is consistency, ie. don't lose to the teams below us. Adding experience and the maturing of our current players will help this. Depth though, with a healthy list is the main key to consistency.

I have concerns against Crows, Eagles, Swans and Power. We need to lift our running power to match these teams. There's no other team that holds real fears for us.
