was he worth it, wasnt he worth it. all that shit. all those pages.

And it turns out that we are going to be able to turn that fifth year into a draft pick or an extra player without having to pay a dime of that money. It also gave Cloke the ability to turn that one extra year into two extra years at a more sensible market rate.

Makes me wonder whether we really have any idea what goes into contract negotiations. The business of football is not...black and white.

The truth is, we don't have a clue.

The Pies are a very professionally run club, they know what they're doing. Of course it doesn't always go to plan, but they don't get this stuff wrong very often.

OH he can go to the doggies, and keep on booting point after point, outa bounds, more points, letting down teammates upfield, I have no gripe with that at all. LOL

i think 2 grand finals appearances every 8 years or so is a fairly good return. Obviously we only won 1 of the 4 we have been in, but i would say we have been just as successful as anyone else this milennia other than Geelong and Hawthorn (and they have been extraordinarily run).

Slightly tangential thread, talking about success...

Since the start of the AFL in 1990 the most successful clubs in terms of premierships and GF appearances are:

Hawthorn: 5 flags from 7 GFs
Geelong: 3 from 7 (probable GF this year)
West Coast: 3 from 6
Brisbane: 3 from 4
Collingwood: 2 from 5 (plus draw)
Sydney: 2 from 5 (possible GF this year
Essendon: 2 from 4
North: 2 from 3
Adelaide: 2 from 2 (possible GF this year)
Port: 1 from 2
Carlton: 1 from 2
St Kilda: 0 from 3 (plus draw)
Melbourne: 0 from 1
Free: 0 from 1
Footscray, Gold Coast, GWS and Richmond are yet to play in an AFL GF, although either GWS or Footscray will play in this year's GF

So, we are somewhat successful in the AFL but need to win some more flags.

When we signed the contract we knew he was a poor kick at goal but we had no idea he would decline so fast and become such a sterile weapon by his 4th year. None of us realised he would be such poor value over the length of this current contract and that he put more effort into his contract negations than getting a kick at times.

We may have spent 105 pages arguing about Cloke, but we just received pick 105 for Marley Williams! Razz

If you thought pick 105 was bizarre, Carlton just traded pick 135 to receive Rhys Palmer from GWS.

Had we not signed him I would assume there would have been just as many threads whinging about that. There is no win really, we wanted to keep him, I guess there was hope to make him a better kick and all that.

It didnt work so now we have offloaded him.

there is a fair chance Trav will be lining up at full forward for the Dogs next year... in the VFL.

I just do not see who he knocks out of that side, unless he plays defence.
