If Geelong win this year, the two teams will have won eight out of the last ten premierships between them. Gross.

Coll vs Carlton hasn't been a real rivalry in nearly 20 years. Mostly due to Carlton sucking in the past 15 years, and us sucking in the '90s.

The level playing field has made it very difficult for the chasing pack to recruit well enough to catch the leaders. That is the reality proven over and over this millennium. Free agency seems to benefit the top teams with bucket listing experienced quality players preferring to finish with a premiership medal. The chaser's toil away trying to turn B+'s into A-'s.

When we get back up in the premiership zone, we should keep the coach and keep the playing group as long as possible and top up a champion team with more A+ players...... but we know that now. We'll be back to stay, our lessons learnt.

I'd like a rivalry with anyone for the next 20 years Very Happy

Since 2008, the Geelong and Hawthorn rivalry has been the best in the AFL bar none.

Sydney and West Coast had a classic rivalry with their close encounters between 2005-2007.

Historically though, Collingwood and Carlton is still the greatest rivalry of all time.

Pies and Bummers is another good rivalry... formalised by ANZAC day

Pies and Tigers - born from the 20s...

Pies and Demons from the 50's... and still a natural hatred

Bummers and Hawks - from the 80's but still a lingering animosity

The local derbys are also full of spite e.g. WC v Freo and Port v Crows

Pies vs Bombers is a greater "AFL" era rivalry imo then the Pies vs Blues which has become a very meh game in my eyes.

We haven't played Carlton since 1988 in a September final. It's three generations ago. Urgent need in rebooting albeit I love seeing them on the lower reaches of the ladder.

Indeed, and I was there that day. Sorry I bothered in the end.
But I digress; I too admire the way that when they strike rock-bottom, they keep digging with the desire and urgency to penetrate clay. Twisted Evil
