With talk of Witts being traded that would leave us with one ruckman in Grundy and if he gets injured we are left with no ruck ?

It doesnt make sense.

Can someone make sense of this for me ??

Thankyou

Not me, I don't get it either.

He will be a dominant AFl ruckman, I want it to be for us not someone else.

He is getting to his prime as a ruckman and if another team gets the benefit after we have developed him for 5 years and he becomes another Ceglar I will be really upset with the clubs decision making.

I have been bewildered by this for a long time as well. why would we trade Witts, when we need him if Grundy is injured/needs a rest/or is out of form?? Dispensing with Witts would be insane.

Cox would be our backup, if we didn't get one on the cheap.

Speaking of which, what's Cameron Wood up to these days...?

Because he will never be anything more than a depth player so long as Grundy remains fit.

For that reason, he'll probably take the matter out of our hands by requesting a trade anyway.

In one.

No doubt the CFC would like to keep Witts playing in the VFL as a back up for an injured Grundy. However, Witts would have to be a fool to accept that role, after he's been at our club for so many years. He is to good a ruckman to be stuck in the VFL, but Grundy's meteoric rise means that at Collingwood he would forever be second fiddle to Grundy. Reality suggests that he will request a trade.

To be brutal, he doesn't give us much other than hitouts [which he is quite talented at mind you]. I'm not sure he has much more upside to be honest, and I've been a Witts defender. On the flipside you could argue that Gawn and Jolly were similar at the same age too. Tricky one.

Collingwood will trade Witts if it brings in another player that will help improve the team.

If he's moved, we'll look for a depth ruckman, wether it be FA (Clarke?), trade (Maric?), draft or rookie draft.

So. As Ive said in about 50 threads; I'm happy to trade Witts providing 1. We get a player who is going to be in our best team. And 2. We find a depth ruckman elsewhere.

Simple. Witts is too good to be a mostly VFL ruckman. Overall though, Grundy is a much better player and likely remains so. Instead of keeping Witts as insurance for Grundy we can sign a lesser ruck for that role or make do with what we have while strengthening an area of weakness. It's why we tried to trade him last year and probably will do this year.

Also, I'm sure Witts would want to be playing more senior football than he did in 2016. That's not guaranteed here, it could be at another club.

Because is a Number 1 Ruckman and he will Struggle to get that Spot now with Grundy being 1 of the Best Ruckman in the AFL.

So Witts to get game time. He has to go Elsewhere

I was being a tad sarcastic, Dave.

But, for the sake of the argument, did he retire because of a medical condition? Or was it a 'jump-before-you-get-pushed' kind of retirement?
