17 goals from 13 games, behind even Mason Cox, is evidence enough for me that he was cooked at Collingwood.
I hope he regains some good form at whichever new club he goes to and that his domineering father gives him a bit of space and lets him just enjoy the game. |

But 24 goals from 17 games is a phenomenal season that has everyone excited?

Can we release Cloke from his contract and get a better Draft pick through FA compensation? |
Not that I'm aware. Contract is lodged with the AFL and remains binding unless superseded. |
Didnt the saints/north do that with DalSanto? |
You don't get compensation for delisted free agents. "Renegotiating the contract" is essentially delisting so no, we wouldn't get compensation.
Having said that, we would do better to do a trade in good faith anyway. There are a couple of clubs that are shit to deal with but the rest should be ok.
Sad to se the big lug go but we really should have done it 2 years ago when 2m Peter was available. We could have gotten 2 first rounders for him then including a top 5 pick for an eventual draft haul of JDG, Moore, Wright and another first rounder. With Greenwood, Maynard and Crisp coming in that year that would have made for 1/3 of a best 22 for the loss of Beams and Cloke, neither of whom have set the world alight since.
And yes, I said we should have done it back then too.
I'm all up for sentimentality in footy And I appreciate the effort that Cloke put in to his footy. He would have had to have been more committed to his footy than I have been to anything in my life other than my kid and I totally respect that.
But sentimentality does not win you flags. Whenever possible, we need to look at moving on those in decline for those on the rise. It's ruthless and maybe appears a little cold hearted at times but that's AFL footy now. All the way across the league, players are treating footy as "just a business" and the clubs that don't do likewise will be at a loss.
On Cloke's sentimental value due to the flag, well he spent a lot of his political capital with us AFAIC when he and his dad held us over a barrel with his last contract. The club's debt to him was paid then. 800k for 4 years with a 5th on performance.... for a guy who was great at getting it but was a turnover merchant. Every behind, every out on the full, every shot across the face that would get killed by the defence was a turnover. 800kpa should pay for more than that. Face it.... Cloke is NQR. Great mark. One of the best in history. Good tank. OK wheels for a person with his size. Great tackler when he puts in the effort. Durable as all hell, suggesting a great example to the younger players of proper preparation and hard yards on the track. Kicks like he's got polio though. 800k for an NQR? The club has repaid its debt to him.
Now he's trying to do a Malthouse on the part of the contract that he doesn't like. Fair enough. That's the done thing these days it seems and in my view, he's got the right to shop around and maybe get him and his dad some more coin. We get the chance maybe to recycle some value out of his list position. His fans don't have to watch him decline even further every week over the next couple of years, tut-tutting about how sad it is to see a one-time champion struggling through the end of his career. Win-win-win.
He wasn't treated badly this year. He was given longer than anyone should have been to find form in the firsts. He did ok when he got back in on a couple of occasions, suggesting that he has some good footy left in him. For a team ready to challenge, he could be the final piece of the puzzle. If we can get something in the first or early second round, we would be stupid not to take it. |
Great post. Sums it up perfectly. Only one thing to disagree with: he's not worth a first rounder. Not even close at his age and with his steadily declining form over the last several years. Late second rounder, early third rounder is about right. If we fluke it for better than that, great!
The main thing is to get him out of our salary cap space so that we have money to spare for players with a future, the likes of Treloar, Moore, Grundy, Adams, Crisp, and Aish. When their contracts fall due, we need extra coin on hand so that we can pay them what they are worth. Remember, if these kids are half as good as we think they are and come on as we all hope, they will be pushing A Grade status by 2018 or 2019 and will be entitled to be paid accordingly.
We also need cash for a quality key defender. We haven't got one yet, but whether we recruit one ready-made or discover that someone like Marsh or Frost or Keeffe has gone up to a new level and blossomed into a genuine Reid replacement, we will have to pay them.
Cheers Travis. Loved your work for the club, will never forget your premiership. I'll watch your career with Footscray or Hawthorn or Freo or whoever with interest and wish you the very best. When you hang your boots up in two or three years time, drop in to the club, you'll be more than welcome.
Hell, maybe we could offer you a job as a specialist coach. No current AFL player knows more than you do about goal missing. You could be like the ex-con who goes around the schools teaching kids how not to do what you did. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

His shit kicking when 10 meters out DIF is the cause of him going. Had he rectified that over the last decade then he would still be with us.
This is not Buckleys fault he had the problem when MM was coach. No coach assistant coach forwards coach goal kicking coach has been able to rectify this.
That is Clokes fault entirely _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

no people skills, none, nada,
seriously, I cant believe how easily some of you are writing him off! dumb dumb dumb
he wasn't given a chance after he was sent to the naughty chair, came back for 1 stinking no chance game, and played off the wing, no where near goal, when he finally gets a recall because Moore is injured, he bloody well stood up to be counted.
champion KPPs do not grow on trees, they are hard to find, but hey, lets throw him away! utter bullshit I guess we end up with another midfielder! yep just what we need
when Trav gets picked up by a top 4 team that cant believe his luck, ill cheer him when he gets his next premiership medal. this is not how you treat a champion. not talking to each other, for (mates with) sake is this primary school! |
It is so funny TP
The "perceptive fellow" are happy to throw overboard numerous players and staff.
But Bux and Eddie are untouchable.
To parrot a certain nixster ...you are all white ants! |
Yeah was thinking that; criticise Bucks and its apostate, but any other proud servant of the club? eff 'em throw 'em under a bus.
The true irony is that the same posters will use the "Bucks was a proud servant of the club..." argument.

So Cloke has kicked 217 goals since bux became coach.
My mate blair has kicked 77 goals in 5 years. |
Don't care about Blair, this thread is about Cloke. Cloke has been spudding it up and his misses become team shattering. He should have been traded three years ago. |
No, the club is happy to let him go but as those stats show he has kicked
140 goals more than the club hack who has got a free ride over 5 years.
Keep Blair and piss off Cloke....brilliant by the club. |
Again, this thread is about Cloke and not Blair. My thoughts on Blair are probably the same as yours, but we are talking about a big power forward who stinks it up kicking for goals. For the money Cloke was on he shouldn't be missing from 15m out directly in front. He gets paid to kick goals and he can't, I don't know what Blair is paid to do, so I can't compare him to Cloke. For all we know Blair's job description may be mobile witches hat, who knows. |

If Cloke wasn't firing as a player, neither was Bucks as a coach (refer last 5 years).
Tell me ONE player Bucks has fully developed as player in those 5 years? I can't think of one but I can think of approx 10 players he has boned.
2017 and the first 5 games - I can't wait. |

Interesting... |
Well given that Trav didn't kick his 24th goal until his 38th game...
Whereas Darcy has kicked 33.17 in 26 games for his career...
Old mate Clokey took until his 43rd game to kick his 33rd goal, and at that stage he had 33.53... His accuracy improved a hell of a lot to 39.39 for that breakout year of 2007 [season 3] and also then into his 4th season to 40.25, before slipping back to 22.26 in '09, then 38.40 in 2010, 69.48 in 2011, 59.34 in 2012, 68.51 in 2013, 39.30 in 2014, 34.23 last year and 16.17 this year.
Had the ball bounced into Milne's hands his 2.2 in the [luckily drawn] GF would have forever haunted him. And us. But it didn't. And it doesn't.
He was important for our structure and his workrate never forgotten but it was the sticks that killed him and the sticks that give us hope in Moore, because he at least kicks where he runs. Something that will be fixable. _________________ Get back on top. |

He's off to the Bulldogs.
I just spoke with a Bulldogs employee, someone I've known for many years. I asked if they'd signed Clokey, he smirked and replied " we're not allowed to as we're still in season". I asked if Cloke would be a good fit " yes, with Redford down, Crameri coming back he could also teach the young forwards. I'm sure a deal will be done".
Same guy told me the sanctions Hird and the club would get months before it was released. Hirds ban length and Bombers fine and draft penalty. |

I just hope it's not the swap the media are reporting, Lin Jong is not what we need. We are in desperate need of a young key young forward to help our Darcy. We aren't going to get this from the dogs, so let's hope for a decent draft pick. _________________ "Still waiting for your call Caroline ... not a quote in sight. You don't think Elliott, Fasolo and White can help Moore enough? I'm not being smart, it's a serious question. _________________ kymbo |
