Post subject: Graeme Allan faces a ban of up to four years | |

In The Age just now:
AFL 2016: AFL investigates GWS Giants over drugs allegations
Michael Gleeson
Former number one draft pick Lachie Whitfield has been investigated for deliberately hiding from drug testers with the help of two former Greater Western Sydney football officials.
The AFL has completed an investigation into the matter and is considering what if any action to take against Whitfield and former football manager Graeme Allan and welfare manager Craig Lambert.
It is understood there are incriminating text messages between Whitfield and his then girlfriend which are at the centre of the investigation.
Whitfield stayed at Lambert's home in May last year rather than at his own home, allegedly out of fear he may fail an illicit drug test. Whitfield has said he was suffering from a migraine and it was common for players to stay at Lambert's house rather than stay alone.
All of Whitfield, Allan and Lambert face the prospect of between two and four year mandatory bans if found guilty of deliberately evading or being complicit in seeking to evade a drug test.
A failed illicit drug test might only have drawn one strike under the illicit drug policy for a player but in seeking to avoid an illicit drug test an athlete is also deemed to have sought to evade a performance enhancing drug test and consequently is open to a heavy penalty.
The Giants were made aware of allegations last year and alerted the AFL of the claims. The Giants also hired a Senior Counsel to conduct their own investigation into the allegation.
The AFL made ASADA aware of the allegation and the sports drug body was comfortable for the league to pursue the matter.
Both Allan and Lambert have since left the Giants - Allan was recently appointed football director at Collingwood and Lambert returned to work at the Brisbane Lions.
ASADA drug testers did not seek to test Whitfield or any other player in the relevant period.
No one from the Giants or the AFL was available for comment.
Whitfield's manager Tom Petroro said he was unable to comment on Whitfield's behalf as there was an AFL investigation on going.
Both Allan and Lambert were contacted but have yet to return calls.

I read that, but couldn't quite see where Gubby was involved, other than being the football manager at the time.
Still, if he was involved, stuff him. |

Pretty much. Not a Collingwood issue thank f. He wasnt at Collingwood at the time, so we'll wait and see what happens.
If he gets a ban, we'll just have to replace him. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Not too worried.
BUT it true, then this is the last nail in Eddie coffin and he has to stand down from all football related decisions - no longer on the board and unable to make a decision. His role has to be just the spokesman / mouthpiece of the club. Not allowed to vote at all.
So if the rumours are true, Hine and Balme will walk as they as unhappy with the Gubby appointment and then we lose Gubby for 2 years.
This shit can only happen at Collingwood _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

There is a certain irony here in as much as Neil Balme [reported on SEN this morning] had an interveiw with Greg Swann to move to Lions and it was alledged there was interest shown by Balme.
To see Balme leave [hope not] and Gubby being suspended would be a bad outcome.
Would Balme be alledgedly interested if Allen,s new position was not raised _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

According to Bucks last night Allan hasn't even been appointed to any new role yet. If it's still not official then I'd be sitting on it a bit longer until this new issue blows over. Otherwise if he ends up in the shit we say 'Sorry Balmey, hope we weren't out of line with this whole Gubby thing' _________________ 'Collingwood are the Bradmans of Football'

Regardless of what happens to Gubby, I still want to see the back of Balme, aside from Blackmore's injury update (and he is crap at that) what else does he do??????????? _________________ There is Collingwood and then the rest. |

Unlike others i am not going to take a "double standard" approach to this. By that i mean if it is an investigation into drug use at Essendon or any other club the AFL and media should go as hard as possible at them.
Yet the moment it is our club (or involves someone at our club) .....well it is the "bloody media" or the AFL "big brother" Please people....IF Gubby Allan has done something wrong he should be banned and we have to move on. I am not going to bemoan our situation....or find a scapegoat. _________________ "To know nothing of events before your birth, is to forever remain a child" - Cicero (Roman Lawyer/Senator) 46 BCE. |
