Simple. Hold that thing the other way around and squeeze. Works every time.

(But don't do it! We are all fond of you.)

(Besides, you probably haven't finished saving for the present yet.)

On the contrary, it has:

Put the pressure right back on those Liberal scum to address the issue and stop trying to dodge it.

Placed Turncoat in an even more impossible position with regard to his own party. This issue is going to dog him for his entire remaining time in office.

Made the ultra-conservative extremists who dominate the Liberal Party look like the nasty, dishonest, hopelessly out of touch scum they are.

Saved us from a really horrible campaign from the "no" nutters.

Saved 160 million dollars.

Made no difference whatsoever to the absolute certainty that marriage equality is the future and the religious weirdos had better get used to it.

Forced Stui and I to delay the announcement of our blissful union a bit longer.

That's quite a list of benefits.

PS. You now all have a bit more time to save up for our presents.

I'm still waiting for the ring you tightwad

Oh, you are so traditional. Why should it always be the man who supplies the ring?

Well it would be nice if you did SOMETHING, and letting that bloody cat lick the dishes doesn't count as washing up.

In this kind of relationship I thought that was how the sex worked?

Things are coming to a head in the Liberal Party:

https://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/all-im-asking-for-is-to-have-a-bloody-vote-liberal-mp-warren-entsch-20170802-gxnomk.html

Meanwhile, in a last desperate act of bastardry, Peter Dutton and the other right-wingers are pushing for a postal plebiscite, which is a totally ridiculous idea but as I said, they're desperate.

There's a suggestion that it's all going to happen in next Tuesday's party room meeting: either Turnbull will allow a conscience vote, call for a postal vote or do nothing, in which case at least five Liberal MPs look like they will cross the floor in order to bring on a vote in parliament next week.

God it's embarrassing this is still being discussed when the vast majority of the Australian public are in favour of it.

Whether it be gay marriage or euthanasia this country is to often held to ransom by a small group of conservative Christian politicians whose views are not only outdated they do not represent the majority view of what Australians want in 2017.

Guess what, when gay marriage is eventually allowed it will not make one iota of difference to how those who are either heterosexual or oppose it wish to live there lives, not a bloody one but it will allow those who are gay a sense of dignity and recognition that they and there relationship isn't something to be ashamed of or somehow less worthy to be afforded the same rights as everyone else.

I don't understand it. Pass the legislation and if the churches want it stopped tell the parasites to pay rates and tax. Their choice.

And then what, after the gays, is it three way marriages, marriage to animals, inanimate objects, yourself, where does it stop?

Maybe, if we're really unlucky, we'll get ... wait for it ... drum rolls ... Brides of Christ.

No, you're right - that couldn't happen: it's seriously too sick for a civilised country to contemplate.

So, for me, as long as they don't make it legal for people to claim tax deductions for trying to persuade other people that fairies live at the bottom of the garden, there's no real problem.

Marriage is a wonderful institution
But who wants to live in an Institution?
