Paterson looks like the poster child for the Third Reich.

Yep. Liberal moderates alone will be enough to kill these proposals with fire, one suspects. As they should.

As I understand it, the bill will go up which has been basically ticked off by labor. Anyone can propose amendments but they gotta get through the senate so no chance any of these ridiculous amendments going through.

You don't need to change laws in this case, any reception place that refuses to host a same sex marriage, or baker shop that refuses to make the wedding cake, will get caned on social media and get their clientele reduced to people who agree with them.

^ More to the point, I think existing anti-discrimination laws would likely prohibit them from doing so. It’s the right-wing alternative Liberal bill that is trying to offer legal protections for such people.

In the deep south of the USA, the community got together and produced these stickers. It went viral.

^ I like the sentiment, but it still seems pretty backhanded! Like, "we’ll tolerate you, but only because you’re giving us money". I prefer the simpler rainbow flag version you see on a lot of Melbourne shops, which basically says "you’re welcome here" – no further justification required.

Full survey results here:

https://marriagesurvey.abs.gov.au/results/

Ultimately, a resounding yes – 61.6% to 38.4%. All states and territories voted in favour, and all but 17 out of 150 electorates voted yes. Such a relief.

I know several Yes voters who voted several times, claiming they'd lost their initial survey form.

Conspiracy theories might matter of it was close, but that’s a thrashing by anyone’s standards. Make it happen. Just do it!

Result and margin exactly what I thought it would be. Should be done quickly through parliament because the coalition really want this issue gone before the next election. Don't really care about the issue, there was already legal equality so it was all just semantics really. Not like the gay community are known for adherence to life long monogamy. I'm sure the legal profession will be cheering this result more than anyone.

What next for the progressive mob though? With that issue put to bed the rent a crowd are going to need something else to rally around.

A very expensive survey in the end.All the polls have been showing this result for years,so the postal vote wasn't needed at all.No wonder Trumball's support is crashing when he shows 'leadership' like this. But having said that,i'm glad that Australians voted for equality. It''s about bloody time!
