It is not seeking to "ban free speech" to argue that a football final should not be used to carry political messages. Would you have the same view if a song were to be sung at a grand final with an anti-immigration message ? _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

Ok, so a saccharine song about gay people is 'too politicised'. Where do you draw the line? Midnight Oil? You're the Voice by John Farnham? _________________ "Every time we witness an injustice and do not act, we train our character to be passive in its presence." – Julian Assange |

It's not a political message it's one of his hit songs apparently and part of a set he'll perform.

Don't know the song, and after reading the lyrics I can't find anything very objectionable. That, however, was not the point of my post. That point was that powerful non-political organizations which use public events to address highly political topics can be criticised for doing so, and urged not to. That is not an attempt to ban free speech. A people which is so confused about what free speech is, and is not, is well on the way to losing it.
Do I draw the line at Midnight Oil ? Yes, in general, though I have some respect for Garrett, who worthily subjected himself to the hard scrutiny of public office. His painful experiences there probably matured him far more than did his undergraduate sloganering to the credulous from behind a microphone. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |

Macklemore should be deported th moment he gets off the plane and banned for life. Disgusting to even consider allowing this turkey into the country.
(Couldn't care less about his views on marriage equality, but apparently he plays rap. Rap is the pits.)
The NRL needs to hire a world-renowned singer of quality, such as Meatloaf.

Hmmm .. the one who hates black people, or the one who hates gay people. Not much of a choice, is it. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

Nah, yeah nah.....not this time Mugwump I'm afraid (exibit one):
"....The man who stood side-by-side with Abbott in 2013 in support of reforming 18c, a task he once said he was born for, exercised his own freedom of speech in response to Abbotts call on Thursday.
It is one of his most popular songs and for Mr Abbott and anyone else to say that it should be banned I think is a bizarre thing to say, George Brandis told ABC TV.
I thought Mr Abbott believed in freedom of speech......."

I'm all the way with Georgie boy on this. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |
