For cold calls they can use an automated dialler. Just set the starting point (eg 0402 000 000) and if that doesn't answer it calls the next and the next and so on.

They could be doing the same thing with a text

You mean Svetlana's not real Shocked Sad

No she is real.

I have been sending her $2k a month to help her migrate to Australia. We are truly in love

How can she marry both of us?

Don't worry, just keep sending the money. A couple more suckers, eh i mean nice blokes like you and I'll be able to retire early. Cool

Wow that's huge! Surely they will now have to actually do something if those figures keep trending?

Even if the Yes vote limps across the line with a 51% majority, I think they'll be obliged to hold the free parliamentary vote and get it done. But yes, it's looking more and more like a decisive win, which would be awesome. Let's just hope the polls aren't doing a Trump on us.

Marriage equality is a good thing.
However, just a reminder that it's very much a first world problem:

In Thailand there are gay marriages all the time. No one bats an eyelid. When we were in Bangkok the girlfriend was complaining about the giggling girl in the next room. Turns out they were male arabs, one wearing female clothes. The LGBTI folk flock here and do what they want then go back home and carry on "as normal".

A Guardian poll shows yes winning, a newspoll shows yes losing ground.

Interesting reading. Don't think that solid block of Muslim based countries will be changing colour soon. I honestly had no idea so many other countries are ahead of us. Shameful indeed.

Newspoll says 'yes' is up 57-34, Guardian Essential says that it's up 58-33. What the Daily Teleraph article is reporting is the overall drop in yes support that has happened compared to a month ago, whereas the Guardian article is reporting that support for the 'yes' vote has risen from its mid-month low point.

You can see a breakdown of the polling (with discussion of the two most recent results in an update at the bottom) here:

It's going to change, the issue will be whether sooner or later.

Abbott & co represent a fading minority of views. Most of the 1/3rd who oppose same sex marriage will be dying off & be replaced by a younger generation who overwhelmingly (not left or right) find the No vote belonging to a past era & see same sex marriage as a given. Ask your kids - same with mine & all their friends.

This is merely the last paroxisms of uber conservatives who use a device like a plebicite to delay, cause ructions and fragmentation but ultimately are delaying the inevitable.
