Physically they both should be in top shape, having been 'rested' for 2 years. Keeffe in particular, could find himself in the senior team very early next season.
They maybe but their footy touch is what matters. 2 years out of footy is massive at AFL level.

So Scharenberg is destined to be a bust then ... has barely played AFL, let alone senior football, in three years.

I disagree. A few games is all it takes to start to find touch. The speed is what may stun them, as well as the over emphasis on structure and set-ups these days. But a few practice games, a few VFL games ... they'll be right. No different to a season ending injury. Only difference is their bodies should be top-notch condition.
You could be right and I would not compare the two. The druggies have had two years out of football as a whole. I am not expecting those two to do anything in their first year back and will happily eat humble pie. My view is different that's all.

It's a pretty unique scenario, so we'll soon find out early next season I guess.
