I watched the game vs Carlton again last night, and thought he looked excellent helping us transition. Strong hands out on the wing one-on-one, he took a lot of contested grabs and he was often able to hoof the ball to the inside 50. I really think this should be his role. He followed up that carlton game with a powerful and majestic performance vs GWS (20 disposals, 12 marks, 4g 1b)and then was good vs Adelaide (17D, 7M, 2.1).. and then seemed to subside in the following three games - averaging about 10D, 6M per game, and returning under a goal a game from a grand total of 5 shots on goal in three games). It was not unreasonable to drop him back to the reserves after those three very mediocre games.

There is something seriously not right, here, but it is impossible for an outsider to tell what it is. Nevertheless, it is evident that Cloke can still play a strong role in a given game. I really hope that we keep him unless we can package him for another good KPP.

Really good article in HS which explains why it is insane to trade Travis Cloke. With Darcy Moore next year, we could have a lethal combination right there, with Travis' physical strength syphoning off opposition defensive agression from Moore. Who else do we have capable of such a role? Jesse White??
Opposition teams are secretly laughing at our idiocy.
It is just so obvious that we need Cloke next year to support and play a role in diverting oppostion resources away from Darcy Moore as Moore comes onto the scene as burgeoning star.
Our coach will be carrying out a crime if he gets rid of Cloke. We need more kp players, not fewer.
If Buckley engineers the departure of Cloke,my anger with his monstrous decisions will go into overdrive. If it eventuates, it will prove to be one of the most catastrophic decisions ever made at CFC.

This makes sense to me. Unless we were to somehow secure Hurley's services and then we might be able to put Reid up forward as a dangerous foil for Moore.

Yes, support our best power forward in 30 years,
by dropping him 3 times in one year.
Great support there.

Did Bucks vote? I reckon he would be in the 37% who want him gone.

I can see the point but Buckley has freely admitted we need more key position strength at either end. See what that looks like after the trade / draft period. Only then will we have some idea.

One thing though you don't do any trade willingly unless it improves the list position - Trav included.

I think Bucks would give his left nut to have Trav circa 2012, just isn't quite producing at that level.

Cloke and Brown both stay, end of story. Both have struggled this year (not on their own there) but both still have plenty to offer, perhaps in slightly different roles. Trav needs to become the high half forward, have said it before and will say it again, with the job of delivering the ball not just with the responsibility of kicking goals. Brown can handle gorillas but needs better support around him. Look at our injured backs and think what they might do if fully fit in supporting Brown and Reid. Sack stays but Caff, Toov and Williams should go. Williams has currency out west and might just be part of a package that snares something tasty like a Walters. Might.
We have plenty coming through to give us an optimistic outlook for the forseeable future.

No single Collingwood player is more responsible for the demise of the club's on-field fortunes in recent years than Travis Cloke.

Think of all those 'honourable losses" when Cloke (on $800,000/year) failed to clinch the game by simply doing what he's paid to do. Time and time and time again.

Out with him, at any price. His time was up years ago.

Totally agree with you here.Doesn't clinch that big time pack mark when needed and if he happens to mark it then it's about an 20/80 chance of kicking a goal. Pavlich is going to retire and Freo will be looking for a power forward.Swap him and Marley Williams for Fyfe and that's a win for both clubs.

Now that Hurley is off the table, i wouldn't be giving up Cloke. Especially if Jarrod Witts goes too. Lachlan Keefe is not the answer either. We cant afford to lose our talls, if we dont replace them with something better.

Fans have their say on Travis Cloke's future

Nathan Schmook, August 12, 2016 4:38 PM

TRAVIS Cloke's future at Collingwood is coming to a close, according to the fans.

In a poll on AFL.com.au that drew more than 19,000 votes, almost 70 per cent of supporters said they believed he would be traded at the end of the season.

Asked if Cloke would return to his best at the Magpies next season, just 13 per cent of those who voted said he could still play an important role.

According to 18 per cent, he would still be at the club but only in a back-up role, spending the majority of the season in the VFL. [continues…]

Just how many of those 19,000 votes were Collingwood supporters?
