Questions re: Silvagni.
1. Why has he only played 53 games in seven seasons?
2. Why did he play only 5 games this season?
3. Why has he only played 7 games over the past 2 seasons?
4. Is there a reoccurring injury there? Or has he been consistently dropped and kept out of the side?
5. What has his WAFL form been like?
Positives:
*192cm
*Stop type defender. (Full Back if you will)
*Would not be on a huge wage.
Negatives:
29 years old.
Lack of AFL experience. |
In 2015 was listed as injured from rounds 1-15 with a hamstring, returned to AFL in round 19 V St Kilda, and played round 20 derby V WCE and was suspended for 4 weeks from that match.
2016 was concussed in WAFL in round 2, which kept him on the sidelines until round 6, he was then listed as a calf injury until round 16 (may have been injured at training). Played WAFL in rounds 17 & 18. Returned for game V Swans in round 19 and kept Buddy to 2 goals in 90 point loss.
Played rounds 19 -23 and was named in Shockers best 4 out of 5 times including last round win over Doggies. _________________ In the end, it's not going to matter how many breaths you took, but how many moments took your breath away |

We have Pendles, and arguably Treloar who are better than Lewis.
He would have walked into our best 22 like he owned the joint.
We now have Melbourne almost a certainty for the final eight in 2017.
A midfield comprising Jones, Vince, Brayshaw, Viney, Petracca and now Lewis, concerns me greatly. Did I miss anyone?
Need I remind you Melbourne beat us twice in 2016, comfortably. |
Not a chance he walks into our best 22. Pendles, Treloar, Sidey and Adams all better than the Lewis of 2016. Wells would play in front of Lewis, as Lewis is too slow and by his own admission on AFL 360 was nearly dropped halfway 2016. He left Hawthorn because Clarkson could not guarantee him a contract past 2017, which should tell you where Clarkson sees him.
Yes Melbourne did beat us twice in 2016, but I will be backing our best side to knock off their best side twice in 2017, assuming we play them twice. |

So Lewis would not walk into our best 22?
So Smith is better?
So Blair is better?
So sinkers is better?
And the rest ...
and even Adams is better???
Even Varcoe had a crap year this year.
i would suggest Lewis had a better year than Varcoe.
No i don't buy that he would not walk into our best 22. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Lewis is a midfielder only, can't play anywhere else due to his lack of leg speed. You are listing players that are not midfielders. I would play the 5 I mentioned above in front of the Lewis of 2016 in my midfield if I was coach. I would also play Crisp and De Goey in front of him. |

The guy ( lewis ) is getting a bit long in the tooth.
So I will say that counts against him.
But he averaged 26 disposals and kicked 12 goals in 2016.
Blair was mainly a forward he he only got 14 this year.
I have seen lewis play forward and back.
I would have lewis in blair's role any day of the week. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Absolutely Lewis is a far far better player than Blair, however in the role that Blair plays, which is a defensive forward, Blair would be better than Lewis because Lewis is mainly unaccountable, that is he just runs around by himself, very rarely has an opponent, and he isn't fast enough to chase down players.
Saying that Blair won't be playing much AFL in 2017, unless we again encounter an injury crisis. |

To my great horror Blair is picked every game year after year.
So he is by the club best 22 every frigging week.
lewis was best and fairest at hawthorn in 2014 and runner up this year.
So a guy who was runners up at hawthorn is not worthy of our best 22? _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

Blair won't be picked in our best 22 in 2017, he doesn't even have a contract yet for 2017.
I am saying that Lewis is a midfielder only. I am saying that I would pick seven of our midfielders ahead of Lewis of 2016 if I was coach.
Hawthorn of 2016 were lucky to make the finals, so finishing 2nd in their B&F is nothing to hang your hat on. They won half a dozen games by less than a kick, which if the results had gone the other way, they would have finished where we finished.
Clarkson is not silly, he knows they were a very average side in 2016, which is why he told Lewis he can't guarantee him a contract past the end of 2017. Lewis by his own admission was nearly dropped halfway through 2016.
So, yes for mine there is no spot for Lewis in the midfield in our best 22.
I am also saying that given his lack of leg speed, I would not play him in any other position other than midfield given how the modern game is played. |

Well, I still think it is a big call declaring Lewis somewhat inferior to our best midfielders.
Yes Lewis and Mitchell are getting slow, but their ability to keep on getting loosely 30 possessions each most weeks is/was astounding.
They are both quite apt at farming the pill off to a quicker player running past, and hitting that moving target most occasions.
Some weeks it looked like they wandered around the field without an opponent, almost like they were invisible. Made me sick.
And you know what shits me? [Tell us Dyso, do...] Even if we beat Whorethorn [finally] in 2017, it will seem almost hollow, because Lewis and Mitchell won't be there, only Hodge. #Satisfactionfail. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

I understand why you think it is a big call, but I am basing it on what I saw of Lewis in 2016. It seemed like they wandered around without an opponent because they did.
If we beat them in 2017, which I think we will, it won't be hollow, as it will be one side on the rise and the other in decline. |

I hear you but we played that shite zonal 'defence' which we ditched postbye so I am still optimistic that we can beat the Dees. That said they have a nice list _________________ Daicos, impossible angle ... Goal! |

^^There'll be even more zone defence in 2017. Half the reason for the moves in defence. _________________ Well done boys! |
