On Saturday they introduced Rupert Wills into the 22 and he played well for
his maiden game
Looking at his body stats at 191cm and 89kg [D.O.B 20/5/93] he may be the
football size clubs are keen on like Dangerfield 189/92 D.O.B 5/5/90
That said Rupert and Patrick identical but separated by time/experience in the game.
We have if the wraps are true on his potential a simalar size Matt Scharenberg 191/85/D.O.B 18/9/95.
Medium bigs with pace and grunt---will this be the model of choice _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

Yes. Should steer clear of the Garry Ablett, Sam Mitchell, Boomer Harvey, Libbas, and Eddie Betts types.
I'd suggest we pick the best player available. What ever the size. There is a new concept!
Trade for needs or specific roles. |

If you listen to Dekka that has been his recruiting strategy ( best player available )for a long time.
Hence we have a team of poor kicks,
Hawthorn rarely if ever draft poor kicks.
Jono Marsh is a great example.
Went late in the draft probably because he is a butcher of the ball.
No doubt, he has the X factor and has other great attributes.
I am sure Dekka picked him up because he was the best available.
Not sure Hawthorn would have picked him.
Remains to be seen whether Dekka is on a winner with his strategy.
Our 2010 team had a third of the players recruited by Judkins.
This current team is owned by Dekka. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

^If they can't kick well, then they're probably not the best available. It is dependent on your weighting of different skills in the assessment.
I too have serious doubts about Jono Marsh only becuase his kicking is so inaccurate. He misses still targets 30m away by 10m. |

I'm not sure Scharenberg is a grunt player. Those who know more about him than me have likened him to a Pendles type, with great vision and decision-making.
Ultimately, I think one can get too fixated with player types and overlook a champion player, because they don't fit the perfect template. Hawthorn's Mitchell struggled to get drafted to the Hawks because at the time clubs were looking for 'Kouta types' - big bodied midfielders. With Wills, Crisp and Pendles, we've potentially got 3 big bodied mids, but of those, only Wills is a true beast. |
