Smith has been great for us very underrated and kicks pretty well and really has a crack.

He's a great player to watch. What's the go with his contract?
Extend the bloody thing.

The issue will be whether we keep him on the rookie list or promote him to the primary list. If Swan and Sinclair play on then we will be trying to keep guys on the rookie list and rely on nominated rookie and injury promotions.

I imagine we will keep Cox on the rookie list so his contract doesn't count towards the salary cap (as I understand it). Keeffe is the other obvious one vying for promotion.

That'll come down to the quality of the draft and whether we'll likely want to offer draftees 2 year deals (senior list) or 1 year deals (rookie list). Will there be more late pick gold like Marsh and Langdon? Would they survive till the rookie draft?

I think Golds and Gault will be gone at seasons end so there will be rookie spots available as well. We also need to wait and see what Keeffe and Thomas do. Senior list spots are a little harder to identify. Swanny may retire, at least 1 of Goldsack, Macaffer or Toovey may be gone. A player like Witts may request a trade.

Promoting rookies may cause more grief than we need.

History also tells us that there will always be other players coming into play, whether wanting to leave Collingwood or wanting to come to Collingwood. That is why these conversations are best left until after the season so that we can discuss stuff based on facts rather than utter gueswork and pure speculation. Rolling Eyes

I'm not turned on by what Smith does, I am far more interested in what Smith doesn't do: panic, stupid turnovers, dumb frees against, fumbles, dropping easy marks, standing around rubbing his shoulder and whinging instead of chasing and tacking to get it back, handballing to a player with two opponents right next to him waiting to pounce.

Smith is a very boring footballer. I like boring! Boring saves games. Boring wins premierships. Boring saves lives*.

* "Saves lives". Really? What lives? Well, mine for a start. Have you got any idea what it does to my blood pressure to see a defender handball at the feet of a teammate in the corridor 60 metres out with opposition forwards all around him?
