Record amount of tackles by a player on debut.

You can see his rugby background coming through, he tackles with momentum and with his whole body.

Good size, hard as a cat's head, tackles like a brown bear and kicks like a wounded mule......he is a Collingwood footballer to the core.

Rugby background?

I'm pretty sure he was playing footy in year 7 here in Melbourne.

Came to Australia when he was 6 or 7, so I am not sure what influence if any that rugby has had on him.

Having said that, yes, he makes his tackles stick and is a contested beast. Something that has only occurred since he got to Collingwood. When he played ammos, he was more a skinny flanker who would soar for Howe style species.

He's what we've been waiting for....a big bodied, tough midfielder with footy smarts.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that he had played, or maybe it was had he stayed in NZ he would be playing rugby. Either way, he has a great technique and was influential in us dominating clearances.

I heard a few rupruprup calls from the crowd but our numbers at the game were low.

Hopefully the rupruprup chant will echo like thunder through the G again for many games to come as we slay yet another team in our home arena.

He had a great start to his AFL career yesterday and did the touh options.

He well and truly deserves to stay in the team for next week.
Then Dusty Martin can try one of his "don't argues" on Rupe and see where it gets him.

Agree about his tackling but I'm more impressed with his ability to not be tackled, especially in traffic. Certainly has the swan's Josh Kennedy about him.

Along with his tackling, I liked the couple times he chased down the ball carrier. We didn't see enough of him in open-play to better assess him as a footballer, but I'd play him in the firsts for the remaining games this year.

Tackling and his pressure on the ball carrier were easily his outstanding attributes on Saturday. Couldn't believe how baulked up he was for a first year player, but granted he is a mature-age recruit.

He's not a fast player, but he makes it up with his strength. I was keeping an eye on the big screen at the game on the tackle count throughout the match and he was consistently ranked 1 for tackles on Saturday.

Deserves to play against Richmond.

It was tight contested footy (finals like even) most of the day so that suited him. Pleased that he was thrown straight into the midfield when he eventually got on the ground.
