Maybe i should just go fishing for couple of years before I resurface to see how collingwood is going. |

Whiting are the best fish in the ocean!
i prefer to catch a good whiting than a huge marlin!

Whiting a close second for mine. |
You clearly need to get out more. Flathead trumps them both for southern salt fish. But if you really want to try some great fish try some nice coral trout or cobia or some nice salt run barra.
Redfin just about tops them all.

Agree.
Redfin is the only fish that you should not scale.
cook with the skin and scales on and it peals off perfectly when cooked.
With the imminent demise of the carp next year with the release of the specific disease to wipe them out, Redfin should once again be plentiful. _________________ we don't eat our own at collingwood we just allow them to foul our nest. |

I suggest a seasons-end shindig at your place, and we get our piscatorial pals on your BBQ, then wind down in the Daicos Bar - for about 12 hours.
Next day, off to Rotty to play with the Quokkas! Yay!! _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Haven't caught any nannygai or emperor so I'll take your word for it. Jacks and fingermark and goldies are okay. What's a baldy?
Edit: Groper... never caught one of those either...

Sounds good mate!
Don't know how this turned into a fish thread... but I'll run with it
Mate of mine was slowly trawling about 200 metres off Trigg last year and landed this metre long mackerel, bought it straight round my place and we chopped it into cutlets and put it straight on the BBQ (what we didn't freeze) and it was amazing.
Another time down south, where another mate has a shack, he threw the square hooks out across the river mouth and we caught quite a few sea mullet. They were choka block full of little prawns and maggots, I've never seen a fish gut so full!
He butterfly filleted those, straight on the BBQ and they were also scrumptious _________________ Don't count the days, make the days count. |

Haven't fished any further south than Onslow in WA so never encountered 1. I'll add it to the bucket list. |

I've caught Barra (both mundi and couta), Black Jews, Snapper, Murray Cod, Trout- Redfin, Flathead, Jacks, Gummies, even landed a shovel head shark in Darwin harbour (took some doing), KGW, various reef fish, gotta say though i'm not a big fan of eating fish, Flake from the fish and chip shop is my favourite, KGW is nice as well, like the taste of flathead but to many bones, pinky snapper goes alright. _________________ Defender...........

I grew up on the Murray but never liked fish (growing up, mum made me eat this horrible smoked cod stuff every Good Friday which turned me off all fish) so I never tried Murray Cod or Redfin, but dad swore by both of them.
However in recent years I've been trying some fish. I like Barra and flake, can't stand smoked Salmon. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |
