Why wouldn't the carlton=Essendon game be in our slot to give hawthorn likely to finish on top, another days break.

they're likely to have 12-13 days break anyway. also, the afl probably think this game may have a bearing on the final finishing order and wants some last minute drama.

There's a week off before the finals this year, so the days before the finals don't matter

You would have thought the Blues-Bombers games would have been last, but the Hawks asked for the Sunday game apparently.
I dont think it really matters as there is now a bye week between round 23 and the finals.
And I also think the AFL would like a bit of drama on the final day. We just need to provide it now!!

I'm surprised we're playing on Sunday against the Hawks. All the talk about this game was that we were either going to play on Friday or Saturday, so this is somewhat surprising.
It feels like deja vu that our season ends on a Sunday afternoon again just like last year when we played Essendon and lost by 3 points.
