Brent Macaffer played an important part in the Pies win over the Giants on the weekend. Shutting down an in-form Shaw and scoring a wonderful goal.

He worked on his running fitness previously and re-invented himself as a on-ball tagger and now after a further injury setback has returned as the defensive forward.

Is this his long term position? Back in the forward line but with a new defensive mindset and focus. Can we afford to have Caff and Blair in the forward line at the same time on-going or is there someone else better suited?

I like the Caff there and think in the modern game you need a specialist who can shut down the defensive play makers... well done to our Lazarus Smile

I don't think there is space for both Caff and Blair as defensive forwards. Caff is too slow to play a defensive role in other parts of the ground. I believe that he is past his ALF use-by date.

Agree, but I wouldn't be surprised if we give him another year as we do lack experience across our list.

Caff is only 28 this year.. he has had some bad luck with injuries but would not be past it - yet!

Crikey he only had his 7th birthday this year Smile

Both Blair and Caff join Tooves and Goldy as players that need to be pushed out put by the younger guys for our team to be a genuine flag contender - but they set the bar and they need to be replaced on form and not pushed b4 their time. 2010 had great depth because of the guys who were replaced - hopefully next year those 4 and Brown can ensure a high standard by those wanting to take their spots...

Yep, this. Not sure Caff will get too many senior opportunities, loss of pace following the knee injuries his biggest issue, but we need to retain some of these guys into 2017 as they will help build the next side. They set the standards.

He did a good job on Shaw however he is too slow in my opinion these days.

(Interesting to see Shaw lose it again with his team-mates when things aren't working out for him)

His position is in the VFL, or as an emergency in case of an injury to Greenwood or Blair.

Beat me to it; as they say in France, the more things change, the more they stay the same

Caff is still smart, strong and a reasonable size. He could play this role where there's a suitable matchup but I mainly see his future as a VFL player who can come in and play a role if needed.

In regard to his role, yes he played as a defensive forward in 2010, but the role on Shaw was more of a tagger than just a forward who applies defensive pressure.

I hope the club retains him on a good salary, but as a VFL player and mentor to younger team mates
