I love watching it and over here it is on at a reasonable time.I have always said they need to look after riders more.Too many motorbikes and spectators running on the course waving things in riders faces, One rider threw a drink bottle at a twits head last night which caused him to get off the road which got a laugh from me. But then 3 kms from the end an inflatable bridge collapses onto the track causing chaos. AFL and others take note. The public don't go to sportto see adverising

Correct sentiment but how do you stop spectators running on the course? You can't have barriers hundreds of kilometres long then pack them up overnight and have them ready for the next day. I am embarrassed to say it but the worst spectators that I have seen at the Tour are ignorant Australians who know nothing about the sport but think that carrying the flag entitles them to behave like morons.

Tour de Farce ??

Whoa. It's all part of the most high profile bicycle tour on the Planet.

Spectators have, for ever, have done that. ie. running on the course.

Why the assumption " ignorant Australians who know nothing about the sport" ?

We DO have bike races here. Do the names Cadel Evans, Stuart O'Grady, Robbie McEwen, Brad McGhee, Phill Anderson etc. ring any bells ?

The motorbikes are essential - for TV coverage.

However, unless they (and the team cars) are electric, there IS an exhaust fumes, for the riders, issue.

I don't know if this sport has any credibility any more?

But I guess you could say the same thing for us after the Essendon thing....

Umless of course the spectators crowd the course and a media motorbike stops dead and 2 of the great names in cycling run smack bang into them It was going to be a classic tussle and now ruined by idiots. A couple of spectators were escorted by the gendarme over other incidents and idiots letting off flares as riders approach. Running alongside is one thing but in front another. There are too many bikes, motorbikes and cars on the course these days to hark back decades of what the crowd used to do,

I am aware that we have bike races here. I have raced since the early 1990's and still do.

Your assumption about my assumption is a mistaken assumption. What I said is fact based upon my experiences watching the Tour on the side of the road after having climbed the Galibier and Alp d'Huez on my bike. Drunk, fat gutted Australians with flags that have never been on a bike in their lives are an embarrassment. That is evident by their behaviour and language. That is a common sentiment among the cycling community. The Tour has become a bogan magnet. And yes, I am an Australian with family roots here going back to the mid 1800's.

I saw an idiot hold his very young daughter over the railing at the prologue crit at the TDU a couple of years ago, so she could get a better view. She was millimetres away from being hit by a rider doing in excess of 65kmh. People like that do travel.
