Greyhound ban: Report on Hunter Valley mass grave details 'slaughter',

A report by senior barrister Clive Steirn found it was likely at least 99 greyhounds were brutally killed and buried at the property over four years, between 2009 and 2013.

The report said most of the dogs suffered either gunshot wounds or blunt force trauma.

Mr Grant said he believed more information about greyhound abuse would come to light in the months ahead.

"The matter is now being referred to the New South Wales police for investigation of individuals who are alleged to have been involved in this," he said.

"I am aware that there are many suspects in this matter who have been very vocal against the ban on greyhound racing, and now it's clear to see why.

Absolute justification for prosecuting the individuals involved.

Does it justify shutting down an industry?

If it's rogue behavior, No.
If it's typical or endemic behaviour in the industry, Yes.

So yes it's justified. Unfortunately whenever humans are involved in something, greed usually follows, whatever it takes.

I'm also sure there are owners out there doing the 'right thing'. The percentages? How could anyone know. So I believe at this moment it's the right decision.

^

I've read a theory that goes something like this.

Wherever there is a high reward - low risk option, people will take it.

Regardless of morals, ethics or legality, someone will choose to take it.

Actually I'm not so sure.

They said that about cigarette advertising too.

Be nice to see humanity come out on top of the dollar for a change!

Good Point TP but smoking kills people not animals. The Greyhound is an introduced animal and it's an income generator for people. No one gives up their income without a fight and you have already have sitting NSW MP's objecting as well as the opposition MP's. Victorian MP's on both sides are for Greyhound racing to continue.

Just your all round good bloke this turd! Evil or Very Mad

The NSW Government has released documents that it says discredit prominent greyhound trainer Tony Gannon, who has been campaigning against the industry shutdown with Opposition support.

In State Parliament on Wednesday afternoon, Deputy Premier Troy Grant tabled two transcripts of an interview Mr Gannon did with the Special Commission of Inquiry.

" Personally, I don't care about dead rabbits. The issue of money is more my concern to keep the industry going."

The second transcript was of a phone call the trainer made to then-CEO of Greyhound Racing NSW, Brent Hogan.

Mr Gannon made the call after finding out Four Corners had footage of live baiting.

"I would have bashed the f**k out of them and took the camera," he said."I mean, if you know they've got the video, surely you would have done something?"

Later, he told Mr Hogan he was "ringing other blokes who do similar things".

"They've cut right back, just to be on the safe side," he said.

Surely a good prosecutor would grab this and run with it to prove the industry cannot be reabilitated.

LEGAL OPINION: Greyhound ban in New South Wales
Racenet - 15 Aug 2016
Can the Government really ban the greyhounds and what does it mean for horse racing and other animal sports? We've asked lawyer Wayne Pasterfield for his opinion.
