One of the biggest back-flips in Australia's political history. The ban will be reversed.

That's what happens when policy is made as a knee jerk reaction.

Next for the lock out laws.

Ain't that the truth Stui. Yes, it's a matter of time as the lockout laws have only bankrupted businesses and cost people jobs.

Weak as piss.

Hopefully this will be one step on the way to a total ban - in years to come.

That's ridiculous & will never happen Cool
They were bred as a racing animal. If it wasn't for greyhound racing, there wouldn't be any.

Greyhound racing is banned in a lot of places, there is no good reason that this can't happen "here" too - apart from greed & self interest. Then again: in a two dog race always back self interest Wink

(What Jack Lang sort of said to a young Paul Keating - in NSW!!)

Hopefully enough to straighten the industry up, there are a lot of good people nationally that will be greatly affect.
If its reintroduced, very strict (jail terms/lifetime bans/extraordinary heavy fines) must be enforced for offenders, no slap on the wrists... which should have been done first time around.

For those who can't read and willfully misconstrue:

The industry has to go period. Timing is the issue. The industry has shown contempt: animal cruelty & murder continues unabaited

You had me at period!

Roosters are bred for cockfighting. Dogs in parts of rural China are bred to be eaten. Doesn't necessarily make either of those things that we should support.

Dodgy argument.

Roosters aren't "bred" except for cockfighting or as show birds. The vast majority of roosters that live beyond youth are for breeding more chickens.

Without cockfighting we still have plenty of roosters, without greyhound racing the breed is essentially defunct after a few generations.

I agree in part that maintaining a bad industry simply to save a particular breed of animal that serves no other use is not a good reason.

As far as breeding dogs to eat, as long as they're treated well while their alive who am I to judge? We had chickens and ducks when I was a kid, bred to eat and for eggs, and the chicks made good pets. Pet sheep end can end up as the Sunday roast.

The ban was a populist knee jerk reaction that has backfired. Now they're back to where they should have started, put in place reforms and policing of those reforms and boot out the rogues.

+100 squillion!!

Not surprised the almighty dollar and in this case gambling dollar wins again 😡

Gutless spineless oxygen thieves should replace the current dictionary definition for politicians! I hope all gamblers and those who invest in betting companies like you Jones you grub lose every cent and have to live in the sewer like the stinking rats you are!

Oh and if you think this is over - you are wrong very very wrong!!! And when this war is won and it will be - horse racing next!!

And what a stupid argument - they breed them to win money if they aren't fast enough they kill them, let alone the horrific death of other animals as a result of live baiting. Animals are not on this earth to provide entertainment for primitive humans who haven't managed to evolve since the caveman!!

What a joke - oh if there's no racing the breed dies out - fck me do you know how many species of animals are wiped out daily as a result of humans? Care about that do you? Care about how many elephants are being slaughtered to provide trinkets for humans? Care about how many lions and tigers are being slaughtered for the bone trade so that eejit Asians can have " special" powers? Care about how many Rhinos are being slaughtered so that eejit Asians can tell themselves that rhino horn which is fcking keratin the same as fingernails will make them sexually potent?

Nah you just care about ensuring that greyhound racing continues so the breed goes on - yeah right Rolling Eyes

I agree as long as the ban is justified.

I don't actually give a rats about greyhound racing, I just seriously get pissed off when I see knee jerk decisions made.

Destroying an industry and a whole lot of jobs because you're having a bad day in the polls is what I hate about politics.

And what happens to all the dogs and horses when they ban (it will NEVER happen) racing?

What about the billions, actually, 10's of billions of dollars that the racing codes generate?

Until man becomes self sufficient and lives off the land, the planet has a sustainable population of a qaurter of it's current level and the whole way that mankind lives our lives, the things you talk about are as ridiculous as colonizing Pluto Morrigu.

The best outcome is to make the industry as professional as possible.

If you banned everything that offended someone, there'd be nothing.
