He was so close to becoming our 3rd 300 game player.

That round 1 game.... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

If only the damn Swans didnt get the game moved.

Does he have a financial incentive not to come back too?
Gets paid out a year's salary if his career is curtailed by an injury?
At current pay, that's worth more than he likely gets paid next season.

I too hope I am wrong, but I suspect we may have seen the end of D Swan as a senior AFL player for Collingwood.

Why would his contract entitle him to anything beyond it's lifespan? Are you suggesting that he'd be entitled to compo if the injury curtailed his capacity to do whatever he plans to do post retirement? Does anyone know what his future job options are?

As much as I'd hate to agree with that idiot I feel he may be right.

On a positive side, can we now bid for Hurley? Razz

I suspect Carey is right.

The Lisfranc injury that Swan suffered in round 1 is apparently very difficult to full recover from and with the age he is and the hint that this might be his final year at the start of the year depending on how the club performed, I suspect he won't play again which is sad for a champion like him.

I'd be over the moon if he somehow returned and played on for an extra year.

Yep, this. Has unfinished business so I'm sure he'll do everything possible to get up for 1 last crack.

so if he does return, it would be as a forward and part time mid.

is there a position for him in the forward line? we only have elliott and faz as small strong forwards IMO

I hope he plays again. The team will be the less for his loss. i was there in Sydney for his injury. I truly hope it was not his last game. But if not, wow, what a champion he has been for our team. I would so love to see him out there again for us. I would like to farewell him in style on his terms if possible. I had his injury. not easy to recover from. I truly hope he does

Watching Swanny and Jamie last night at the Village Green was great telly.

Reading between Swanny's lines, pardon the pun, I'd be betting he is hanging them up.

My interpretation was he was close to a decision and had a strong feeling on it but was waiting for another surgeons meeting (confirmation it's not great) before formulating an announcement. He was miles away from thinking of kicking a footy (through the thought of pain) and focused on his leg and life outside of footy, night club and tattoo shop and twitter functions business Smile.

Hope I'm 100% wrong but on the bright side this may be a rare chance for us to farewell a premiership hero gracefully, not fooked up by disrespect and incompetence.

Won't be many greater than Swanny - lets hope us supporters and the club do a great job in seeing him off.

Well said.

I looked forward to seeing Buckley wind down his playing career as a goal kicking forward in the Darren Jarman mould. Unfortunately a dodgy hamstring tendon put paid to that, and prematurely ended his career. Jump forward a decade or so and there was talk that Swanny would be played forward. I really hope we still get to see that.

Yes, i was looking forward to his forward role.
Who could forget that mark he took over Jack Watts.
And then he gave him one.
Classic
