Post subject: Jarrod Witts swap for Hoskin ElliottReply with quote

The Pies are into Hoskin Elliott big time and hopefully Gubby can use his GWS links to bring in this "clever" versatile player whose X factor is what we could use.
Witts is superfluous to needs. Gone are the days of carrying 4 Ruckmen on your primary list and with Grundy, White, Moore and Cox available, we should move Witts on.

Cox has played more good games and improved 5 months than Witts has in 5 years. With Mumford on the wane and Jarrod not wanting to sign on after the club made overtures in April, it makes sense to be aggressive and utilise such currency.

Like this deal, but I think GWS would want more.
Hoskin Elliott was a #4 Pick, his great grandfather played for the Pies i believe

Witts won't go to GWS.

On what basis do you say that? If I were Witts I would jump at the chance. Mumford isn't going to be around forever and GWS will be finalists for a few tears to come.

Edit: I meant to say few years but few tears could be a Freudian slip as that may be what other club's supporters will be experiencing once GWS age a bit more.

Because he's apparently in a stable relationship and both he and his girlfriend are settled here in Victoria.

If you want to get Hoskin-Elliott to Collingwood using Witts, it will have to be through a 3-way trade. On that score, I could see Richmond making a play for him...

Haven't GWS already got a few ruckmen as well, anyway? Though a tree-way trade deal can work, probably take more than Witts to get a deal done there as well but at least it's worth a shot if you can get it done.

Off the top of my head, Mumford, Lobb, Simpson, a couple of other young prospects as well. They're stocked.

Moore is not a ruckman and White is a terrible ruckman
Cox has not shown anywhere near enough as a ruckman to be classified as one. Once you ignore his being an American and how far he has come he is a very average ruckman. His field play is poor and makes White look like Dean Cox.

Also Witts has refused to go to GWS

I disagree on Cox as a Ruckman, he's actually very good at stoppages. He has very good hands and getting better.

Around the ground I'd put Witts in front of him but give Cox another 12 months and it may be different (or not)

BTW, I believe trading Witts would be lunacy. We've invested all the time into him and would be selling him right before the dividends start to pay.

I'm with you Stui we have invested heaps on Witts. He is showing good signs as he keeps developing. We would be in the $&it if Grundy went down for an extended period.

I agree but but get quality you have to give something of value up. I mean, we paid over a million for Mitchell in the 80's & look how well that panned out,

Lobb is a forward, Simpson a dud and Mumford's body has 30 games left in it. Take it to the bank!
