Agree - the first few times he made a hash of delivering it to the forwards, but he steeped up and up as the game wore on. Both he and Marsh look the goods. I liked our backline tonight - for the first time in ages, it's starting to look as though they know each others' names. We are nowhere near complete, but it is building. |
Add Scharenberg to that back seven and you have a backline that could play together for the next five years (depends of course on the bodies of Brown and Reid standing up). The future is looking brighter. The challenge now is to establish a forward line that will work together, but the ingredients are there with Cox, Moore, Fasolo, Crocker, Elliot and De Goey all in the mix. How we structure up in future will depend on form and injuries, but our list is not as bad as people are making out. |

Yeah I think Bux indicated Pendles was sick... so if he can get up next week look out... Varcoe was intense but missed some chances to really make an impact on the game...
I thought we played very well given the conditions - clearance work was good as was the kick-outs. Our defence against their kicckouts had them struggling = bring that game next week and for the rest of the year will see a lot of teams get knocked off!  A strong finish to 2016 will have us primed for finals in 2017 and beyond!

Agree, I thought the boys used the ball really well in the wet & that forward pressure was superb. Big Cox does some great off the ball stuff and when he can consistently take those marks, is going to be a big headache for most backlines.
Like others am impressed with Phillips, Maynard & Marsh

Marsh was brilliant. Great to see a backman prepared to take a mark. I hope they leave him in for the rest of the year. Phillips looks very promising.

Thomsoc I reckon the long sleeves reminded me of Ronnie McKewon. Apart from that, let's focus on the positives. Rotten night, weather and temperature, but very encouraging considering the past 3 games for both teams. We have a lot to look forward to I truly believe.

Good old Ronnie.
I really liked his work at full back, pity about him not being a favourite of Mathews.
I expected to win last night given the injuries to freo.
We have a reasonable to good list.
The next two games will be a big part of where we are at.
I expect to beat Carlton but I am very worried about GWS.
They play fast footy and they can break through our defensive structures.
Last night we had our spine with Brown, Reid, Pendles, Cloke and Cox and Grundy in the ruck.
That made a huge difference with freo's spine decimated.
Terrible crowd last night.
It truly was a ghost town.

Really enjoyed watching Phillips and Marsh - instinctive players with talent that is starting to show.
They will only get better. Really hope they are given more games this year. |

To be honest our kickouts were diabolical until Howe was put there, now our kickouts are a strength imo. Makes a mighty difference having a precise kicker there who can deliver the ball to actual advantage instead of just being hopeful.
