Good win. We were tougher in the contest.

Just got back from the game. Ladies & Gentlemen we have a player: Phillips, he's the real deal.

Go Pies.

Good win tonight.

An aspect of our game that really bothers me is the lack of shepherds we put on. We don't protect the ball carrier. We run forward waiting for the cheap handball whilst the carrier gets smashed in the motion of handballing.

This also gives the opposition to impact a contest even when out numbered as our team leaves the closest man to the ball to fend for himself. I'm sure this doesn't help the injury front too.

Am I alone in this observation? Happy to hear your thoughts where I might be wrong.

Yeah I agree, although I saw a couple of beauties tonight. When we chase though, we tend to go to the ball carrier, and not to where he is about to dispose of it, playing catch up too much.

Very exciting to see a young bloke emerge. Super impressive for a second game.

Agree - the first few times he made a hash of delivering it to the forwards, but he steeped up and up as the game wore on. Both he and Marsh look the goods. I liked our backline tonight - for the first time in ages, it's starting to look as though they know each others' names. We are nowhere near complete, but it is building.

Liked Marsh, if he can get a consistent run at it will make an excellent addition to our backline.

I only saw the game on telly but it looked as though Freo had the full flood going in defence which made it for pretty shit viewing.

Grundy killed it in the ruck

Hell yeah. He improved markedly from the Dees game and was a playmaker ala a right-footed Didak.

Smith continued to shine, Maynard improves with each game, De Goey was ok, The American was ok [soccer goal was amazing] but couldn't stick his grabs until they upped the ante and turned the rain on, then clunked two highly improbable ones.

Just on him, what I love is the look of desperate determination he gives in a contest after a fumble, he channels anger at himself and turns it on anyone near til he gets the ball under his control again. He's a gem.

Howe will be AA, Reid should be AA. Brown spoiled better than Frost, played Pav well. Marsh was brilliant, particularly his long arm intercepts and kicking. I don't rate Sinclair but he was fast, sharp and spot on tonight. Aish was willing and good for a quarter and a half, then faded for a quarter and a half before coming on to notice in the last. Was in the thick of the action alot. Marley was evasive albeit a bit sloppy with his disposals, Treloar didn't have as much impact as his stats suggested and Pendles was well down on both his impact and stats. Sidey was ok without being prominent. Greenwood just annoys people and gets the job done.

Grundy was everywhere. Cloke was solid, White was a bit dodgy. Blair was Blair, inspirational and solid at times, others it was like he was too small, but he gives you 100%.

It was a good win. Freo had found their way the last few weeks but we completely shut them down. Not too many highlights but a strong effort over the four quarters, can't ask for much more.

Loved Phillips. Easily the highlight.

Treloar good but disposal at times quite poor.

Blair just keeps fumbling and falling over, effort is first class but he aint AFL standard and the whole world knows that.

Freo were so bad I am sure they must have fixed the match.

OK I was being optimistic but called a 45 point win.... I'll take it. So glad I went and was part of the smallest crowd since 1940.

Thanks for one final win before I leave the state. Great night.

Go Pies.

PS - Smith for Rising Star this week for mine. So consistent.

As an aside.... anyone else worried about Varcoe's spot in the team? 8 touches. Put's a lot of pressure on... but that aside.... is he doing enough. Probably a better question is who would come in and offer more!
