it really isn't that bad.

He didn't have much clothes on!

I did, I had snow rated top and bottom thermals, ski pants, snow boots, snow rated running top and a 500 fill knee length Parka!

A freezing cold night after a particularly disillusioning week. Felt like giving it away myself a few times. Still here though, so suck it up! Smile

Crowd size is not a shock.

It wasn't that bad.
I had gloves that was left in my bag.
A Shirt and a ordinary jumper.
And a jacket that is more a raincoat than a thermal.
No wind and no frost.
It seriously was an average winter's night.

Absolutely pathetic.
Resign Ed now.
But wait he has gone on holidays.

Interesting how you attribute this to McGuire, when its more about cultural/generational change, the internet, foxtel, attention deficits and abuse at the hands of the AFL and the TV bosses in 2013, 14 and 15.

It goes back to Terry Waters and Mikey Bone.
I Know the past because I was there!
Tonite was pathetic full stop!.

That is a joke.
Did you see the cheer squad?
Nobody there absolutely no one !!!!
Where was Eddie?

The times they are a changin'

You should see sport in the country...

Tennis is long dead, where once every place had a team

Cricket and footy going the same way. Kids and people are there, they just won't play.

Yes, I grew up at Echuca.
Massive crowds every saturday game day.
Now it is only a tenth of what was the heyday.

People have had a gutful of the Collingwood leadership. Pure and simple.

I think we're reading too much into this.

On top of poor form which has already seen a drop off in crowd numbers, the cold weather was really the deciding factor in whether people were weighing up to go or stay home and watch the game on TV presumably with the heater on.

I was also considering staying home but after missing the Queens Birthday match due to exams I was eager to attend so I decided to go, but I understand completely those who chose to stay home and I don't think anyone should be considered less passionate for doing so. I've never felt so cold and relieved to leave the stadium when the match was over that's how cold it was.

However, due to the membership figures not being released yet, I would make an educated guess that the figures have declined, but how steep the decline is I'm not sure. I don't think the club will be panicking after tonight but poorer crowds in the near future will certainly raise eyebrows if it hasn't already.

i have often believed we have or have had a core of about 30-35k supporters who attend the melbourne games. last night's crowd was always going to be small given the weather, the relative ladder positions of both teams and the simple fact freo doesn't have a big supporter presence in melbourne. it was probably down by 20-25k; 45k might have been anticipated when the fixture was set.

as for the cold, it was ok when there wasn't any wind or rain. ground level was slightly better than up the top but it meant sacrificing a decent view to be less cold.

We have had worse teams, worse runs with injury, worse losing streaks and much less hope and still drawn crowds higher than the ones in 1940 and 2016. The AFL needs to look at why.

For anyone deciding whether to walk up with a GA membership or buy a ticket at the gate, I reckon the following has a massive impact on whether to attend or not:

Walking around the outside of the ground towards gate 1, this is what you can hear on the PA system in a nasally voice - " The only general admission seating available in the Ponsford Stand is on level 4. The only general admission seating available in the Ponsford Stand is on level 4. The only general ad........."

Yet there were 80,000 empty seats in the place..... Rolling Eyes

That is right.... treat people like peasants.
And what happens on a friday and saturday night?
No full strength beer.
So I hid my supplies and got in.
There was no cheer squad whatsoever.
A few peasants waving a couple of flags.
the accumulations of a whole host of negative things.

Yeah, pay good money for shoit seats when the joint is empty. First in best dressed always seemed to work well.

Eventually decided to not go last night. My daughter is expecting and we didn't want her out in the cold so we sat home and watched it. For the sake of Thompsoc, the fact that we did not attend last night (which is rare) had nothing to do with Eddie or Buckley for that matter.
