SL are in the black, now. 3/86 and, from here, every run is one that Australia will have to chase down in the fourth innings. Mendis 64*.
Australia just lost a close review against Matthews.

Just as well. Things are getting tense. They must get Mendis - he's played Australia on his own today. |

Pressure getting to Smith. He's used up both reviews to no effect. Neither team has any reviews left for this innings, so let's hope the umpires do a good job. One bad decision here could lose this match for either team. |

Lunch. SL 4/116. Mendis 86*. Australia must get Mendis straight after lunch. SL lead by 30 and another 100 could put this out of Australia's reach. |

So, on a pitch where no-one else has reached 50, Mendis is 125*. Before this game, he had an average of 33 and a top score of 53. |

Marsh got Chandimal for 40. Maybe too little, too late. The lead is up to 117, Mendis is now 131* and SL has 5 wickets in hand. After reducing SL to 2/6, this has been a miserable effort in the field. |

SL leads by 180, still with 5 wickets in hand. Mendis is a ridiculous 165*. That's more than three times his previous best test score and nearly 4 times the next best score in this game, so far. |

SL leads by 196, with 4 wickets in hand, with a rain delay (preparatory to play being abandoned for the day, again, presumably). O"Keefe is off injured. The new ball is due to be taken. Mendis is still at the crease, 169*, channeling Very Very Special Laxman. Australia will be lucky to get out of this from here. |

Can't agree. It's only a 200 lead.
2 full days (rain allowing) left.
Mendis had a Test average of 33 ?
The Aussies have Voges (ave. 92), Smith (60), Warner and Khawaja (both a touch under 50) and Burns (47).
Doesn't mean they'll win but I am wondering, why the pessimism, mate ? _________________ Donny.

I agree Donny. Knowing the SL team and history like I do, they are likely to fall in a heap today after the new ball is taken for not much more and allow the Aussies to get about 210 or so for victory with at least 100 overs realistically left in the match and probably more.
Of course the other less likelihood is that they get a lead of 300 plus and put real pressure on the Aussies with their 3 spinners.

Play on day 4 will start one hour later than scheduled. That should help the movement with the new ball (as should the wet outfield). |
