^^^^ He's one of those very, very rare players who make the game look so easy and unpressured that people tend to underestimate just how remarkable he is.
There was a classic example in the third quarter, yesterday. Cox got a short kick away from the ruck contest, Sidey grabbed it first time and then beat 5 Geelong players to get the ball going forward, yet again. The thing about it is that you don't see Sidey beat 5 players spectacularly, one on one, the way, say, Gavin Brown might have done - Sidey is so balanced and so capable of going in any direction that his opponents don't know where to commit themselves in such contests. So, Sidey waltzes out and you'd be forgiven for thinking that there was a no-tackling pact in place. You really have to watch it all again to see how much pressure another player would have been under because he just looks like he's having a kick in the park against kids. He plays quite a different game from everyone else. Since he's small and slow, I guess he has to but he does play at an extraordinary standard. |

Congratulations Sidey and what an excellent way to cap off your 150th with a best on ground performance

His ability to run and run and keep on running all day is phenomenal. We now have 3 absolute A grade midfielders in Sidey, Pendles and Treloar. Pretty soon Adams and De Goey will join them giving us the luxury of 5 A grade midfielders. THIS will deliver us a Flag. |

I'll join you for a threesome. It was actually in the second quarter where Steele careered through five cats, bounced off a Pies player on the way, and delivered a handball that ultimately resulted in a goal. The commentators largely credited Cox, who was important, but P4S's observation was excellent. It was Steele that did the breakthrough work, because he is so relentless and multi-sided that he's nearly impossible to predict. It can't be this year, but I hope he never clangs someone again with one of those bumps, bcause he is a chance for the Brownlow if he lays on a full season like he is having now. He was a force of nature on Saturday, like Swan ca 2010. _________________ Two more flags before I die! |
