looking at the age profile, if we draw a line from nathan brown onward (those 27 or over), in four years time ben reid will be the eldest at 30 (body permitting too) and the bulk of the squad will be 24-26. this should stand us in good stead for a serious tilt at a flag or two in the next four years. we're also going to have a core group who will have played 50-100 games, particularly together.

Bit off topic, but Swanny is 8th on our all time playing list.

3 games behind Bucks. 4 behind McHale. 7 behind Burnsy. 11 behind Len Thompson. 20 behind Wayne Richardson.

Dane is 43 games from playing 300.

Out of reach, for now, is Nuts who is 49 games in front and Tony Shaw who is 56 games in front.

At seasons end, he should be up to 4th and could be up to 3rd on our list.

At 28yo, Cloke is on track to get right up the list. He is due to play his 250th this year. Another 4 seasons could see him push 300.

Sidey/Goldsack due to play their 150 this year.

Frost/Grundy/Langdon/Witts due to play their 50th. (White too). (Adams, if he plays 20 will get 50 for the club as well).

Back on topic, the list is in great shape. We should hope to make the top 8 in '16 and from '17 on, we should hope to shake the top 4 and hopefully push for a flag.

So project 2017 isn't a go then?

I've always seen it as a worry that we will lose Brown, Reid and Cloke in the next few seasons, who replaces them? Keeffe, please, just no. He wasn't AFL standard before he got suspended.

I'm fine with targeting 2019 or 2020 as the start of our next premiership window, but just wish the club would stop talking about 2017 as when it opens, because it doesn't, that much is clear now.

we know things can change quickly. i was and still am more bullish about our prospects from next year onwards. obviously, teams need a lot of things to go right for them to be in contention. what we would have hoped for this year includes (but not limited to):

- gault taking the next steps
- trav refinding his form
- swanny staying upright
- elliott staying upright
- ramsay not ending his season
- sharenberg getting a few games under his belt
- witts being available
- pendles not damaging a rib

....and Marsh staying fit.

The Ramsay and Scharenberg injuries are extremely unfortunate. Really hope Marsh and Maynard can stay on the park.
