Quote: | A SECOND junior football match in a month involving Glenorchy has been called off following alleged abuse towards an umpire.
An under-13 contest between the Pies and Huonville at Huonville on Sunday was cut short at three-quarter time by a senior field umpire and police called over alleged abuse from a Glenorchy official.
Four weeks ago, an under-16 contest featuring Glenorchy and Sandy Bay at Queenborough was abandoned because of inappropriate contact made by a player towards an umpire.
A spectator at Huonville, who did not wish to be named, contacted the Mercury and said after the match was called off, the Magpies official followed the field umpires from the ground.
“[He] followed him off the ground shouting abuse, along with other Glenorchy supporters,” the spectator said.
“They tried to catch up with him and his young colleague ... [who] then locked themselves in the umpires room. |

It's sad this is actually going on, I played for this club as a kid and coached there and over the last year have heard many sad stories about the club. It's sad that a very young umpire was subjected to this as well, we've been struggling for umpires down here for years and this is going to further make things harder.
After seeing some of the club officials I am not too surprised that this has happened, sadly the players are learning bad behaviour and that is why an umpire was subjected to abuse before. This club is horribly run. _________________ Ðavâgé

The Club needs to be fined heavily. Getting people to become umpires is getting harder and harder and to attack an umpire at local footy is plain wrong. It's not tolerated in the EFL at any level. |

I agree, it's happened way too many times from the one club and from a league standpoint as well as one umpire was beaten either last year or the year before as well as one abused verbally and the likes before.
We are slowly getting some good young umpires into the game, we cannot afford to lose them because of morons like this. This is just sad for the entire local footy community even sadder if we lose these two umpires. _________________ Ðavâgé
