My brother made a very good point.
At the start of the last quarter Bux had Pendles on the bench.
We needed the first goal to really bring the match alive.
So Bux puts our captain and best player on the bench.
The coach has no friggin idea.

The injury curse continues for another year. We stop playing for whole quarters. When we actually play: work hard, run both ways and play on with handball we look good and you can see the deep midfield numbers. We only play for one or two quarters at most. In the other quarters we are hopeless witches hats. Very depressing.

A couple of players can turn it around. Time to really drop a few if Buckley has some guts. Bring back Clokey as Darcy has not put it together for a while and needs some assistance. Cox has impressed and those that suggested he was not ready were simply wrong. He is so keen. Missed Taylor Adams more than we think. Go pies all is not lost losing over there. How a crowd can boo a playing having a shot shows WA crowds are feral and the umpires are shit scared.

One of our many problems is the decision making.
Have the ball on the wing and kick backwards or to the centre, then to the other wing. We don't even give our forwards a chance or put the defence under pressure. Look what happens when the ball comes in quick - the defence panics and gives away a free to cox. Or we cause a loose ball for a contest in our forward line.
If we played more direct footy Moore and Cox have a chance to mark and fasolo, broomhead and blair have a chance to crumb.

Anyway, we had a couple of good quarters again .....

I can't help but think a split-second moment was pivotal early in this match.

2nd goal for the Eagles..Brown tracking the ball back towards the goal-square and let's it run on for a goal. He should have been diving at that ball in the same desperate way Heater and Maxy would have, taking any "lucky" bounces out of the equation. Piss-poor effort. Wanted to turn off the tv after that. Doesn't exactly inspire his teammates when they see a "leader" of the club doing that.

I also noted a few times, we had the opportunity to nail Eagles players accepting a handball, while our player was running at him with full momentum. Instead, our players put in a few short steps, to then lay a ho-hum self-preservation regulation tackle. Remember that tackle by Maxy against that Geelong player in the centre of the MCG when that Cats player was running full tilt and Maxy tackled him like he had hit a brick wall? That's what I"m talking about. Make a statement Pies. Play like you mean it.

Rarely ever say this after a 10 goal loss, but liked what I saw at stages. Obviously really disliked other stages too.
Let's be honest, everything had to go right for us to be anywhere near it today, but despite the fact not much went right we were a realistic show at 3/4 time.

I thought Smith was excellent early against the tide, but his lack of experience showed as the game wore on and he was exposed for a lack of composure.

Whilst Naitanui clearly influenced the game in the first and last quarters, Grundy was fantastic in the middle part of the game. He's going to be the best ruckman in the comp by the time he's developed the strength to compete body on body with the big blokes.
Cox was out of his depth in the ruck, but he competed hard, had a crack, and also had an impact when he went forward. Clearly a quick learner, impressed with his ticker as well so far.
Naitanui too good overall for both though today.

I think Nathan Brown is a valuable player against certain types of forwards, but geez if he dishes up many more games like today he won't get too many more chances to show it. Constantly out of position and too easily out-positioned when starting even. Terrible today Browny.

Blair good all day, both when things were going for us and against us.
(Maybe went missing a little in the last qtr, but he has 21 mates.)

Oxley I wasn't sold on and am probably still not, but he's been a guy that has played his best footy when things are going against the team. I like that. I hope he kicks on.

I'd like to think they'll review the game honestly and point out the mistakes as you do, but put a great deal of emphasis on the positives this week in particular. There were plenty of them despite the obvious negatives.
